Always make sure you give it another minute on breaks, the timing is to the second even if the display shows go, you might be a second short of the full time required, and then a violation.

Switching to PC fixes that if you are allowed to do it. Still off duty, but able to move, I just wouldn't do that constantly to not invite too much scrutiny.

Well that makes sense. Because PC is a form of off duty it is still not a true off duty as in home time, other wise the ELD should of allowed him, it allowed him to go to line one, off duty. If the company allows PC but its not in your ELD, like in line 5, then you can just go to line one, off duty, which the system should allow, then annotate PC driving off duty.
Don't know if you are asking me the question on how soon the machine will reflect changes after rule changes, I would imagine after ELD companies make changes to their software. I believe we will see some changes on how PC is administered, old 20 year mandate/rule that just got clarified this past Dec and went into effect Jun of this year.

On a side note this is a Facebook page of a officer with the Indiana State Police. I visit this page on a frequent basis. This is how law enforcement sees the law and rules, first hand from the people that are going to stop you and fine you. Great stuff on this site, like they look for dry rust, I would of never thought about that, to identify loose, missing or cracked components. Yes I check my lugs nuts for this but never thought about the rest of the truck. Some of the things drivers get dinged on are just mind boggling.Hope it helps

Ours shows an orange mark for driving off of line 3, either for PC and YM, and those can't be edited, so if you park and leave on yard move, you might be in a bind, on duty not driving can be edited if it's a mistake.

Driving on line 3 would be on duty driving which according to the mandate can not be edited by driver, maybe, maybe back office, but I doubts that. If violation on line 3 then back office is suppose to annotated why and then have driver sign it. Yard move should be done on line 4, on duty with a note you are yard moving. PC should be done on line 5 if that is provided, if not then you must use line 1, off duty, with a note you are in PC status. Now all companies are different, but this would satisfy FMCSA. I have a couple of friends that drive for a company that allows them to drive PC, if they run out of hours, to shipper and receiver also to bobtail. Is it doable?, sure, is it legal? NO

What ELD do you have? We have Big Road, running AOBRD.

    Go to AA. :D

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference

We have EROAD ELD. I have numerous issues with it, but pretty much have it figured out.

No AOBRD from that company, and triggering isn't always avoided by moving carefully, also, creeping around on line 2 flags a back office violation, but not on the device.

Yard move will trip you up if you forget about it, speed doesn't switch it to line 3. I don't know about distance, I only have gone a few miles by mistake. and as long as it didn't affect 11 hour clock, it really wouldn't matter, you have to stop or slow to under 5mph to switch it.

I believe the mandate states under yard move just has to show you on duty and I believe I read somewhere that it must put you on drive after 20 miles. Again that is the mandate, many ELD manufactures don't comply with everything that is mandated because no one is policing them. They are self certified.

ABOARD is not an option anymore. As a matter of fact I have 1 truck running that and all trucks after Dec19? must be on ELDs.

Look at my link on post 68, that is why you must be stopped or under 5 to change it. Over 5 mph must log you on duty driving.

I never understand why people make a big deal about the 30 min break. Just about everyone driving probably stops for 30 min anyway, hmm shower break, lunch break, most people spend about an HR or more getting loaded, pooper break, com check didn't go through at the truck stop, for some truckers lot lizard break, point is, more times than not, there is 30 min of down time at some point in the day.

The 30 minute break makes it more complicated.
For decades anybody of any intelligence level could hang on a steering wheel and get a truck from Virginia to Texas. The grab a nap here and there driving.
ELOGS changed all that by making drivers "trip plan". Actual having to think to do their job.
And a lot of drivers can't handle it. Look at them...

Like I tell everyone else #####ing and moaning about elogs... buy an exempt truck and run paper. Complaining isn't going to solve your problem. Man up and be a real trucker, either get the laws changed (good luck) or get around them.
