Sounds like a job I wouldn't go for. I am usually home 2-3 days a week, and the way that I make 800 per week is if I take a day or two off. I am a HS grad, and have taken a bunch of college work as time and my schedule permitted. My employer checked my background carefully, made me take applicable road tests, and invested time in training me in operating their equipment. The did not train me in driving, since we don't hire without that skill. They have also invested more training time in me as we have gone on, getting me qualified to do other work and haul other products.

As a result of my military time, I have numerous skills that are of high value to an employer, managing people and projects, supervising work crews, mechanoical skills that would allow me to work in almost any repair garage if I so desired, and so on.

You need to not underrate your fellow drivers. They are a good bunch in general, and the occasional bad apple gets much more attention than he deserves.

And i too shall depart the discussion at this point....

I dress like a slob.....I like to be comfortable.......

    Who am I?

I am a retired driver with more then 20 years experience. I have no accidents. I am courtious and kind. I am also arrogant and opinionated. I will not urinate on the toilet seat, always pick up after myself and refused to drive a truck that had body damage and kept it clean. I never brought anybody's equipment back to them in worse shape then I left with it.

I volunteer any time I can help my community or a fellow driver. Red Croos, SkyWarn and ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services). If I don't see the need myself, all you have to do is ask. I am the guy who will stop with you if your broke down and have spent many hours helping where I could. I'll help a lady change her tire.

I also never allowed anybody to walk on me. I am also the largest critic of truckdrivers out there. The people Wreckless describe are a minority. They are out there and their numbers are growing.........and 20 years ago it was the same...we had a few of them then.

The difference now is hiring practices......When I started out there were very few schools (If any) and you were chosen by somebody who taught you or you taught yourself. Either way we appreciated everything we learned.

Now they say we have a driver shortage and the only requirement is that you can hold a steering wheel and can pass the DOT requirements. And that is the difference. Very few people who come into this industry today are without a sense of pride for what they do and what they have acomplished but there is a certain percentage who only care about themselves. They do not care about you or anybody else. They think they are on a gravy train and by God do not get in their way.

It is easy to spot somebody who has no pride. He is the guy who is tailgating, can't hold his lane, knocking people's walls, fences and poles down....He can't get around a corner with out curbing his tandems and can't drive next to a curb with out scuffing his tires. He is the guy who will back into you in the parking lot and leave. HE has no sense of responsability and ZERO PRIDE.

I resent the implications made by you guys concerning dress. If ya' want to look good , please do so, but don't judge me by my dress. I might surprise ya'. Instead, judge me by my actions and who I am.

You guys are real . I am not miserable I have the most wonderful family in the world and I love them to death. I also love good people, and the good people of my industry. I live for the one and half days I get to spend with them almost every week, after all that is great right, to spend 78 days on average a year with the ones I love, to raise my kids and be with my wife plus carry on a racing program. I leave on Sunday's with one intention, getting the job done and getting back home, ain't that what the Navy does? If I were a smart man I would still be in the military. But I was ignorent enough to think I should leave the military to be a truckdriver and make all kinds of money. Here I have done nothing but speak the truth in every word I have spoken and now I have been ridiculed and laughed at like it's me that is blind. I have been told it's me that has a problem not the industry. This is just one of those times you just have to do like the good book tells you to, wipe off the dust and carry on. To think I could carry on a real conversation with others in my industry. All I can say is live it, love it and keep on with it. But please in future post I am asking that you leave me out of it. I merely stated my opinion and if I am not incorrect I done it with the utmost respect for the good people out here. I don't belive I deserved your critisism. Anyway good luck.

    First of all, great post.

This statement hold's about as much water as a screen door, and you know it. Remember, we have seen pictures of your house and Ford Bronco ll. Why do bother to keep your grass mowed, and your "muddin" 4x4 so clean, if the above statement is of your true opinion? I have also seen pictures of you sitting in your recliner. Where are all the Pringles cans, and empty tea glasses? These are examples of how you, KcOrey show that you not only take pride in yourself, but also in the things which you own. Just by looking at those pictures alone, I can tell that you are not a slob, and do, infact, care about appearance. Once I start reading your posts, they just confirm what had been thought in the first place. (Remember the patience shown to me about the FCC regs?)

Now, I'm not saying we all have to wear three piece suits, naturally, but whatever it is you chose to wear, make it presentable. You wouldn't show up to many other jobs wearing jogging pants and a hole filled tee shirt. So, why do it here. One can be comfortable, and properly dressed. But no matter what your definition of "proper" is, I feel that it should, at least, be clean.

Now, did that make sense?

Man, what are we going to do with you? :laughing8:

By the way. I was trying to help that driver understand that you can't change other's, just yourself. I meant no harm.

I may be and you seem to be very right in your post. Maybe it is a small percentage but it is that percentage that America see's. And they leave there mark everywhere they go. I do not wear dress pants neither. I could only see myself trying to tarp a load in those. But I do however make sure I don't stink and try not to show my crack in public, LOL. And I take shower as much as I can. And most public places that don't have truck parking do not have the bathroom problems that a truckstop has. Even Walmart's stalls don't have 50 layers of paint. The car is a 98 Ford Mustang with a big block on spray. It has a full fiberglass body and a tube frame chassis. I have had it done for three weeks now. The best it has ran on the motor is 6.17@112 1/8 mile. I tried the spray once but it was all over the track and had to get out of it midtrack and it still ran a 6.12. It has 10.5X33" tires and is a ex-outlaw car. It used to run low 4's on them 10.5's, I don't know how though it is a handfull with my little big block.
