    Scuba Guy,
    Bubba is awesome!

Swift has made their own bed. They only hire new drivers. Recruiter said "We only hire new drivers just out of school, or drivers going into our school".

What do you expect from them?

I am glad to see that you posted this and the pics. You are 100% correct that the "courteous" was completely forgotten with that "trainer". I'm just a recent grad in driving truck, but even I know that when spaces are limited, you only take what room is needed for YOUR truck and YOUR truck only. I really think that this "trainer" should be reported for his INCONSIDERATE action. Like you I feel sorry for the student, I just hope he will learn from that mistake and take to heart the reaction that you as a Professional Driver had to how he parked.

I don't think that our actions are defined by who we work for.

But when this is the kind of stuff that is being allowed/taught at certain companies its easy to see why Swift has the reputation they do!

That said even a Swift Driver can become a Courteous, Safe, Professional in spite of the training they receive, all that's required is a little common sense, and the right attitude.

If you have just graduated from Swifts school I really do wish you the best.

Hey Ed, never thought I'd run into a Corraler here. Don't hang out there much anymore although I have posted in the political forum a couple of times lately. I met you back at CD'01, I had a Laser Red '96 Cobra w/4.10s and a 150 shot back then, username used to be Gotpushrods?(now it's makemeknowit) Anyway, got laid off 5 weeks ago and kicking around the trucking idea and found this board, lots of info here on the profession. Good luck out there. I assume you're liking it?

Unfortunately I just got fired from my last job for 2 minor accidents (about $1000.00 each, scrapped bridge and pulling out from parking) in the same week. I hope Swift or someone will take me. I only had 4 months experience when I was canned. Is there a company that will hire me now??

I'd try Swift, but then again they might even say, "No." The worst thing that you can do is not look and try. If everyone says, "No," you're no worse off than you are now, so it's not a step back. One is bound to give you a chance, I'd think. Depends on what is put in your DAC. Be willing to go for a little more training if it means a job. Pride is one thing, money is another. I wish you all the best, Rascal.

While I'm in agreement that it shouldn't be done, everyone does it - I've seen Schneider do it, Prime INC, Werner, and some owner op with a blank white trailer, and etc. I didn't think to grab some pictures, I'll be sure to grabe some to follow up.

Oh btw, how do you actually know he's a trainer? according to your post, he didn't admit to it. Silence is not always a conviction. You're just assuming that he a trainer.

    ragtop,

You should have complimented them on successfully manuvering the truck into the truckstop without rolling it.....(grin)

As for everyone pilling on Swift and their drivers' feelers being taxed over it...sorry, but the bashing comes from seeing to many serious errors out on the road. Personaly, I refuse to park next to a Swift truck. Yes, the odds are resonably decent my hood will still be attatched 6 hours later, but it's a chance I'm just not willing to take.

I'd love to know the number of Swift trucks and trailers that get totaled out in a given winter.

Perhaps you need to reread my post where it plainly states....

As you can see their was no assumption on my part whatsoever...

That being said after being called out like he was, do you honestly believe that he could honestly bring himself to admit that he was a "Trainer"....

Is that enough for you? or are you saying that the fellow getting into the drivers seat was so mentally incompetent that he really did not know who the trainer was?

Either way it only proves the point that I was trying to make...

Swift has built their reputation on thousands of eager drivers, who are being trained by people who have no idea what they are doing to begin with!

Its no wonder their drivers are looked upon as the worst in the land!
