2006 Volvo fan issue

    I have a 06 Volvo with Cummins ISX motor. For about a month i has an issue with fan not turning off. I replaced temp sensors fan clutch but it still kept running. Sent the ecm off had it rebuilt. Still kept running. Took it to dealer they said solenoid was bad. They replaced that and it stopped running all
    The time. Now the issue is this (if a issue) I’m noticing my temp going over 190 sometimes up to 210 and it will sit there. But when i start driving it goes down. Doesn’t do it frequent. Is this normal. This is my first truck and i don’t wanna keep going to shop they took 2 weeks to fix it last time.

    Have to see with Insite (laptop) what temp. fan on is set at. Usually anywhere between 210-217 degrees.

    Normal. Fan turns on a little past that temp.
    You might need a cooling stack cleaning though if you're noticing unusual heat buildup..or excessive fan engagement... It's that time of year to clean it out.

    The newer Post-Emissions trucks (2003-Present) are programmed to run at 210° or higher temperature to help with emissions.

    The problem with having the engine running at that high temperature is that it shortens engine life and the components under the hood are also baking in the heat, which leads to early replacement of many parts that used to last indefinitely in Pre-Emission trucks.

    Agreed.

    Look up my thread for adding a manual fan switch....

    The very high temp of the factory fan setting I firmly believe is why the Cups on Volvo trucks are so problematic generally...

    ... Way way way too much expansion and contraction from heat cycling that causes the leaks...

    I'm sure it doesn't help the ISX Cummins motors either !!
