It's a cryin' shame that office politics can make an otherwise good gig less appealing.
Last week at work we were having a lunch-meeting which was nothing more than a couple of the guys being more dramatic than middle school girls. I just sat quietly eating my food at my desk. Then, I hear my name and "Do you have anything you'd like to say?"
My response:
"Yeah. It's too bad we're so slow right now that instead of being out taking stuff to job sites all day, I'm sitting here listening to stupid office politics."Feedman, cke, jamespmack and 15 others Thank this. -
Delaware. I was at Dover AFB, first when I was in the Air Force then I worked there as a civilian.

Gotcha. We used to live in Easton. When you mentioned hauling chicken I figured you were somewhere on the shore.cke, Ruthless, johndeere4020 and 13 others Thank this.

Sushi is one of my favourite foods. Now, I've had all sorts of types of rolls and from different places, but my absolute favourites are nigiri (slab of meat on rice ball) and sashimi (glorious, individual slices of the most tender, delicious and amazing raw fish in the world).
Only problem is what I like is too #### expensive compared to a generic California or Philadelphia roll.cke, johndeere4020, Hurricane69 and 11 others Thank this. -
I was young... I wanted, felt like I NEEDED, to please everyone... You know how fawking hard it is to please everyone when everyone wants five opposing things?
Boss wants it done one way. Manger wants it another. Jim NEEDS it this way. Well #### me then guys, huh?
I made decent money. I got along with Jim for the most part and he taught me more about life than any teacher I've ever had... and I made some really cool friends. In the end though... the political crap on the second floor made me choose between cutting my head off or leaving.... so I left

That's some cool stuff. People just have no idea how much goes into designing and building things like that.

One thing I always wanted to do, but was always worried my math skills weren't strong enough, was work in a machine shop. I watched my buddies Dad sleeve a 302 out of a '68 RS/Z28 that broke a piston. They kept it numbers matching. Watching that process was impressive!!

Woodworking still boggles my mind...
I knew about mouldings when I started... I never really bothered with anything else though. "Whats a stile and a rail on a door? What's a dowel hole?" I had NO idea.
Our CNC programs could basically do this... out of a solid piece of wood. You can see the "profile" in one of the pictures I posted earlier... and the dowel holes. Our interior doors were mostly out of Sapele and exterior was Oak or Mahogany. Mostly.
When I left they started buying "engineered stiles and rails" basically what you see in the video. Sapele on the outside with an engineered interior.cke, Ruthless, johndeere4020 and 13 others Thank this.
