Hi looking for best advice on what to do next?

should i look for an OTR job for and work it for 6-12 months for the experience.

Go to and oil State like Texas and keep knocking on doors till' someone hires a newly like me?

Stay in my home state (So.California , LA area) and work a local job for 6 + months and get some experience.
Have been offered some local jobs but LA area jobs per hour etc vs. cost of leaving - plus the traffic aren't very appealing .... lots of cheap labour around ?

Have been told best way to learn is OTR ( and sometimes OTR with a teammate- if you get along?)

anyways thanks in advance for response

It depends on what you prioritize. If it's money, I would say OTR is the most sure-fire way, plus has the highest earning potential as you gain more experience. If it's home time, then stay local, but more times than not, working local can potentially sacrifice dollars. For me personally, I like OTR better than running local. I like the high earning potential, and I like going different places. Just remember, the big bucks don't necessarily come the first year, but as you gain more experience, the money will creep upwards.

Stay local. Work your way up to a good paying local private fleet. The only way to do that is to stay in SoCal and develop your network of friends who will give you a heads up if something comes up. I get calls from old friends to let me know of an opening and I do the same thing if we have an opening.
As far as housing, a lot of drivers live in the inland empire and commute in. I live six miles from the ocean. We have a driver that has a house that’s 50 yards from the water. So it can be done if your wife also makes good money.

You should go straight into a flatbed starter company. Learn how to secure freight and tarp. Get into the best division with the best future. Then in 6 months upgrade companies.

I talked to them on the Phone couple months ago... they seemed alright but the pay was less than i've been offered ... and they put you in a two month or so training program with virtually no pay.... less than Jim Palmer pays for their two month training program...

have had someone offer me 42. a mile from LA to midwest area and back with down time pay. ( which i think means will pay you to sit in a hotel and not pay you to drive until loads ready. pretty much hotel and food but no Pay! )

who knows maybe just looking and trying to figur out what to do....

No body suggested the Texas or any Oil fields???

i s it because those who are there don't want anymore competition coming to the "patches" or fields?????

like to add Jim Palmer want s to lock you up in a 6month contract even if you have a CDLa on you r own... i understaand why but still >>>>

Im gonna probably sound dumb here but why a flat bed....

    I learned on a Large 2cab tractors w/ a 10 speed and w/ 48' 45' 42' & 28' trailers
seems like a waste of training to go to a flat bed only situation ? no?

I get the rigging id learn from what you say though

can't find too many descent paying place in LA area ..... large pool of cheap immigrant labour..... my parents are immigrants so i say this as a fact not to be mean...

Long beach ports a perfect example of this..... pay is 60% less than it should be because of major undercutting at the ports .....

they'll just do it way cheaper to the point of a monopoly .....

being a natural born American its tuff to work for #### and smile ya know.....like my parents did.

Do u like interesting loads that require you to get out of the truck and do actual work? Do you like to make more money from day 1? Do you like to run and deliver mostly during day hours? Do you like variety? If so, flatbed is where it’s at. If securing and tarping in bad weather disintrests you, well it’s not for everyone.
