    Be careful doing this.

I set up through a local customer. They wanted extra insurance. So I paid for a year up front.

Once everything was said and done, the freight manager started sending me load offers.

100 mile loads to Lowes with appointments paying $250. No thanks. And on top of that, I tried to lock down a good faith load and after two days of no rate con I just said sc rew it.

Customer is Oldcastle. They ship brick blocks out of NC and SC.

I'm set up with other direct shippers but the Oldcastle thing has me thinking running spot is better for now.

    We'll see.

Also, send a bill for full amount. Write TONU across the invoice.

    DSK333 Thanks this.

Why would you lose all the other loads behind it? Deadhead to your next pickup. Loads are going to cancel, or have problems. It's just part of doing business.

Me, I book loads that deliver same day or next day, less than 250 loaded miles, and pay a round trip rate. If I can find a back haul, I'm that much ahead. If I can't, then I've already been paid to run home empty to pick up the next load.

    whoopNride and DSK333 Thank this.

Yeah when your first starting out it can be hectic and stressful if you've got to make those truck repayments and nothings coming in it can really turn your hair grey if it already isn't so yeah try and get in sweet with some shippers try and cut out the middle man namely the broker who really is taking off all the cream from the top of the cake and leaving you the crumbs happy trails dude hope you find a good paying load.

I've been seriously considering changing my TONU to a full rate cancellation fee. Do you actually get paid after billing a client the full rate as a TONU? Share your experiences concerning this with the class.

I guess I was hoping for the best. I had bricks out of Madison NC that paid close to $3 and change a mile. I thought without the broker, I might get lucky with Oldcastle. Boy was I wrong.

Who hauls that crap for so cheap? And why? Guys must have to do 3 loads a day but with Lowe's appt times, I just can't see it happening.
