I don't get it, I thought the requirement for paper logs was 8 days on my person and previous two weeks on file and that I had to keep logs dating back 7 years.
But these new ELDs I can't access anything older than 14 days (maybe admin has more access than I do)
Because payroll is asking me about my whereabouts on such and such a date and I used to be able to whip out my books and say "yep, shipper X took 4 hours to unload and that's why I was late to shipper Y and that's why I get overtime that day."
But now management has exclusive access to older logs and if they "oops" loose a log for a contested date they're like, "prove it!"
Also I kinda kept EVERY paper logbook I ever had (I've only been driving 10 years, so it was only 120 books or so) because I thought it was required for 7 and what the hell, maybe some day I'd like to reminisce.
Well there was a flood this summer and my storage unit was a total loss. Including pretty much all my logs up until 2016. So hopefully they don't audit me now.
(Gee, what if they do? What can I tell them?!?)
(This might belong in rants.)

I own my truck, leased to a carrier, I text, and save my texts, when I arrive and when I depart are all time stamped via the text. But, I have been with this carrier for four years, run an Omnitracs ELD and as of today, no one has ever asked me anything like you are stating is being asked of you.
Did you turn in your paperwork? I use Scanner Pro on my iPhone to send in my weekly paperwork. I also mail it to the office or turn it in to the office weekly. I have records going back quite a few years.
If your carrier is giving you this kind of grief their is more to the story or they are in financial trouble of some sorts and are looking to rip you off. Just going from experience here. -
I run a “Compliance Report” every 7 days for the previous week and email it to myself, download it and store it on my office hard drive which is backed up several different ways so I will always be able to go back to any date and view, print, or compile the logs as needed. Can you do something like this?

Today and 7 previous days on the driver.
The company needs to keep the last 6 months (plus a week or two) for audits.
Drivers should keep 7 years or more for tax audits protection.Bank_Lbr Thanks this. -
Don't worry about my payroll fights, I've been here a long time and I eventually get what I'm owed. -
Have you been certifying your logs EVERYDAY? Many of my customers do not (which is why I'm asking). Many times, the logs are exported from the Admin Portal as Certified Logs. If you haven't been certifying everyday, there may be "gaps."
Most ELD Providers have a "Driver's Portal" that you can log into (through a web browser), with your driver's credentials. You will have access to 6 months of logs. They (the carrier and ELD Provider) may not have told you about this yet -
RMN.
I either certify every day or the first day back after a few days off. So pretty consistently.
More curious than anything else because, like I said, they're asking me about some job a month & a half ago and I'm like "shoot, I can't remember that far back, that's why I write it down in the first place."Bank_Lbr Thanks this. -

Yeah our front office is a mess.
Most of our drivers are better at self dispatching than the people who come in from 9-5 to do it.
Any problems after hours we just text the owner. Hahahah.Bank_Lbr Thanks this.
