Currently completing TNT training. Less than 3,000 miles left.
I'm going to stay on the truck with my Trainer through the Winter (March) and team with him.
Sooooo, instead of going back to Springfield and Upgrading? I just stay on the truck as a Student driver. My weekly pay goes from $700 gross to $900, (According to my FM, but he's unsure and has to check on it. I've heard it's $1,000 a week from several good sources)
My FM also believes there's a weekly incentive in addition to the above for doing so through the Winter?
Supposedly there's a wait to be assigned a truck after up grading? There's also supposed to be a shortage of trainers?
A little background that affects my decision in doing this. I'm older, retired military yada ~ yada. I'm more focused on gaining experiencne as I can, building and adding to my skill set, etc.
Any comments, opinions, thoughts would be appreciated

Is it possible to go back to Springfield and take your upgrade test and still team with him? This way, They will be paying you per mile and if things go south with your traininer in the future, you can always get your own truck.

I could see waiting for a truck, maybe 2-4 days.
The weekly gross is the minimum guaranteed pay? I think you would make more going solo as soon as you can.
I can see spending the winter running team, especially being retired.
There is team pay above minimum above a certain amount of miles. I would make sure you are getting that as it's the truck lead that pays you, not Prime. Just to make sure you don't get shorted on pay somewhere.

I've looked deeply into Prime. Almost went to work for them.
From what I've seen. You should expect an AVERAGE of $1,400 a week. As a team company driver with Prime. Don't let yourself be sold short. Complete your training. Whatever it is. Taking a test or whatever. Then go out team with him.
It is not easy to find someone whom you can team with well. That is valuable.
But don't let Prime, or your trainer, sell you short. Someone is going to get that $1,400 a week.Last edited: Oct 4, 2018
gentleroger, Gunny376 and skellr Thank this. -
Winter can be rough but I still think that financially you will not benefit from the decision to stay with your trainer. Prime does have a "captian of the ship" policy and they honor it. There can at times be a wait a for a solo truck although it's unusual. The leasing dept issues trucks to both company and lease drivers and would be able to give you an idea of how many trucks are currently available. Just tell them where you're upgrading and if that location doesn't have trucks you can look into upgrading elsewhere.
