Hi guys,
I know I've posted about this before but nobody really gave me a solid answer. I've really been thinking about making the jump and buying my own truck, and plan on pulling a dump bucket, cause that's what I know. If I do, itll be elog exempt and i plan on leasing to either Page or US Bulk. I have my Hazmat and TWIC and I am a runner. I live in north central Ohio, an hour east of Toledo. So, my question to anyone who has real experience with either of these companies, how much can I expect to earn? Also, what type of hometime could I expect living where I do.
Thanks in advance
Earning potential at Page or US Bulk

Explain how much can you expect to earn.
How many miles per year do you plan to run?
Elog exempt, what is your budget for repairs?
What is your budget for fuel?
What is your budget for tolls?
What is your budget for tires?
The truck can make between $100k & $300k. How much can you make? Lol not that much to be totaly honest.
But then again we don’t all do it for the money, some do it so can be lookin’ Large in that Large Car while strollin’ on down the Blvd.blade and freebird95 Thank this. -
I was really just looking for an answer on how much I can expect to gross weekly while leased to either of these companies. I know it is probably an open ended questions but I was just kinda looking for an estimate. I see alot of Page and Bulk trucks around where I'm from and they all look top notch, so I assume there is money to be made there. I plan to run as much as I can but would really need to be home on the weekends if possible. I agree about lookin large that's one of the main reasons why I want to go out on my own, but obviously to make more as a company man and have more freedom is what I really want.

I plan on buying an older mechanical truck with cash, and renting a trailer from the company until I get enough saved to buy my own.
I assumed that 5k a week gross should be doable, no?
1. As many miles as I possibly can run
2. $1500 a week on fuel?
3. I would want to set aside 500 a week for maintenance account if possible, considering I will be buying an older truck
4. Havent thought about that, but will try ro avoid toll roads
5. Included in maintenance account
So after expenses and taxes, I figure about $1500 - $1700 a week would be netted on a $5k week.
Does this sound reasonable? This will all be new to me, it will be my first truck. -
Also, i dont plan on doing any of this until I can have at least $15,000 saved AFTER I buy my truck, to account for any break downs, late payments, things like that..

Taxes, taxes, and more taxes. Don’t forget about them.
You plan to rent a trailer, make sure to find out what that rental costs, and what it includes. You could pay weekly, monthly, mileage. Does your rental include maintenance & or tires?
Your gonna be running a lot of landfills, you will go thru tires.
Start watching fuel prices, running a lot of NY & PA will kill you on fuel price & tax.
A truck that old is gonna equal a crap ton of down time the 1st year or two until you get all the cobwebs worked out of her.
$5,000 should be doable, i don’t know enough about either company to say wether or not they have the frieght to support that tho. I can say when i was in the waste game, i saw both companys all the time. Most guys had older worn down large cars. Let me say this, i pay myself $700/week salary.
Never take more than you need, leave it in the business. It will be there when you need it. If you take all the money every week, when you need it you’ll of already spent it.freebird95 and DSK333 Thank this. -
As previously mentioned, taxes. If you net 1700 you'll be lucky to keep 1200. NYHUT will cost you on top of IFTA and PA has the highest IFTA rate in the entire nation AND fuel is like $4 a gallon there. The turnpike is ridiculously expensive and it just went up again. Don't forget about what you'll owe the Feds too. One thing about pulling dumps, most of those guys do it for the glory. The rates just aren't what they used to be. I used to pull them too and it was fun but I ran very very hard and would never run like that again. If you keep your cost of living low you'll do just fine after it's all said and done but it's a thin line, my friend.
freebird95 Thanks this. -
When I did the math, I figured that 1500-1700 would be after I already set aside money for taxes. I also planned on hauling hazmat loads whenever I could as I thought they would pay more. I know all about the long days I've been pulling a dump hauling scrap, it does wear on you. I've thought about trying out a tanker deal but I'm not sure if that would pay more than a bucket, and I've never done it before.

How do you know you will gross 5k a week?
-
I dont. I just figured that sounds like a reasonable number. that was the main point of my post I was trying to find someone who works there and see how much I could expect to gross each week.
