Must be the location because overall, 160 has a very good reputation.
I think the DMV in your area is the problem, not the students.
Doing a pull up to put the truck in a safe position is no reason to fail someone.Last edited: Oct 3, 2018

the thing is, nearly all CDL schools, buy the yard trucks from auctions, from either defunct companies or from a company that is getting new equipment.
as "yard trucks", they get what they get, they cannot be specific there.
road trucks, which double as DMV trucks are also from auctions or trucking companies, and are "usually" in better condition (they have to be) for the road and DMV. but here too again, the schools take what they can get for the prices. schools do not (by thier nature) get all new equipment, since these trucks, trailers, and tires, are beat to death by students.
as long as each yard truck has mirrors, wobbly or crooked, or even cracked, you just have to do your best. the schools WILL NOT spend all sorts of money to repair them, but to only keep them RUNNING.
i know this from MY days learning how to drive, trust me, i had mirrors that were so out of whack, just barely adjustable, but i did my backing skills with them. i had drivers seats that were WELDED into place, and i had all BALD tires, on the yard tractors...a pre-trip night mare, but they were ONLY yard trucks.
each road truck i'd take for my hour's worth of road time, was way too different as well..what had a 2 stroke detroit, what had a cat, what had a cummins...what had an 5 speed, what had an 8 speed, what had a 10 speed......
again, it's all ON YOU to adjust YOUR timing per each truck.
best of luck to you.Last edited: Oct 4, 2018

Which 160 school is it? I’m fixing to start the one in Springfield, MO at the end of this month.

Don't stress it. Don't overthink it. Keep trying. Honestly you sound like a very capable and intelligent person, but has it occurred that being able to operate a truck in challenging scenarios is a skill that's not for everyone?
Don't take it as an insult to your intelligence or your capability level. Sometimes it's really just a knack that some people have to think and react reflexively while backing a big rig.
I can drive a truck, but could I learn to do all of the things that you have learned from your past training and military experience? Could I be a good cop, marine, or security officer on a government site? The answer is probably not...Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
As former Marine you know it takes a lot of training there's basic then there's specialized training and eventually you become skilled at what you do, truck driving is no different keep on practicing over over .u will get the hang of it eventually or maybe you just need a different trainer.
