Except the op specificly said his dispatch is the one that sent him.
For all we know there is only one office person that does dispatch, safety, payroll, etc. Don't read something into the post that isn't there.

Well your dispatcher has to learn what their limits and boundaries are, harassing a driver when they are off duty is a big no no.

I saw that. I was noting a general thing in regard to testing. However according to the FMCSA operations and dispatch can order "for cause" testing either just before you go on duty or just after. In this case it seems to be bull I agree. However good luck with proving it was harassment. A few minutes ago I told of a man that used to use one of those portable breathalyzers and tested his drivers before they left.

My dispatcher's boss called me once at home. I had just got there several hours before. The result was not at all pretty. In fact I later called him and apologized. You are 100% right about this being a bad NONO!

Actually, part of your statement is inaccurate. The DUI threshold for a commercial driver is .04. However, any “detectable amount” will get you placed out of service for 24 hours. .02 and above is considered “detectable”.

Might want to check your facts, because they are wrong. You have to be on duty or about to begin a shift in order to be tested for anything. They cannot call you in from your vacation to pee in a cup, nor can they call in the middle of your 10 hour break. Once that 10 hour break is over and you're ready to start your day, THEN they can request the test...or upon returning from your vacation prior to getting into the truck for the first time.

Having a CDL and beng subject to random/for cause testing is NOT a license to be harrassed during your free time away from the job. It IS, however, your responsibility to make sure that whatever you might do in your off time does not bleed over into your on-duty time. You need to be clean and clear BEFORE that log book leaves line 1.

If you're off duty, they are supposed to wait until you are ready to go back on duty before notify you to go pee in a cup.

Unfortunately, the FMCSA testing regulations don't back that up. Most carriers will try to accommodate, however a call to test starts a clock, the testing has to be done within that time frame.
