A. Duie Pyle Dollar Tree Account?

    Is anybody in the forum familiar with their dollar tree accounts that run out of Windsor, CT?
    I just talked to the recruiter and one of their dispatcher this week and it seems like hard work and solid pay.
    I would love to get some feedback from those familiar with the company

    I did the dollar tree account with Werner for one year, I just finished my last delivery with them. The account is the same job regardless of the company you drive for. The trailers are loaded from 25k to 40k but the average is 35k . It can go from 1 stop to 3 stop. You throw down everything on rollers. You start you week on sunday night or early monday and finish friday afternon, and if your lucky you get home friday night or until sat morning. Sometimes you do work saturdays. To make money on this account you need to use your 14 daily. Backing up on this stores is a challenge, when you think you been to the worst store you get a store that makes the other stores look easy. Not just backing is bad on some of them stores, getting in the shopping center where some are located is a different story. Have you been to a mall parking where you can barely turn if there is another car in that dirrection? Try that on a tractor with a 53" . Do this, open google maps and select satellite view then search dollar tree stores around your state, and you will get an idea of the store layouts, on some of them you will even see the trucks in their unloading position.

    I doubt $80k is guaranteed. Sounds like if everything goes right, you might make it. And I do mean everything, no traffic jams, no truck problems, no weather, no backing down skinny alleys to reach the back door of every store, no problems in the parking lot. I don’t think any of the stores have loading docks with forklifts. So you touch every carton, and unload on a piece of conveyor, would also be good if the store unloader could give you his / her full attention, but they’ll call the unloader away if the store gets busy. I could be wrong, but if you unload to a closed store, you have to unload the roller conveyor inside the store as well. Probably one if the hardest gigs in trucking. The job you do want with Duie Pyle is line haul, driving terminal to terminal. with drop and hook. Talk to some of the drivers doing Dollar Tree, your best bet for accurate info. See if they’re making $80k
    Also check with the state labor employment division, I think you’ll find something better.

    They actually guarantee 80k for the first 8 weeks. The dispatcher said that drivers can make over that.
    Maybe this position could be a foot in the door.

    Perhaps, but at face value I’d have to find that claim a bit questionable. No experienced driver wants any part of that Dollar store crap.

    Problem is, I wouldn't consider myself an "experienced driver". I figured this would be a way to get experience while making some money. Then in an year or so I would try to transfer to linehaul or P&D

    Take a ride around a few dollar trees, but go look at the alleys, and the back doors where you’ll be delivering. Still think this is a good place to get experience as a new driver? Damage the truck or trailer, or the property where the store is located, and you might get run off the job. I think with a bad mark on your record, it will even be more difficult to get your next job. $80k/year for the first 2 months is no guarantee, just a try out. But if you’re comfy with your skills, go for it. Would be a great job if they sent you out in a straight truck!

    Make sure it's with their LTL division so it actually can be a foot in the door. It might not be possible to easily transfer to P&D or linehaul and if so, you probably won't keep any seniority. Pyle is a very good LTL company, but they also have other dedicated positions and warehousing that has nothing to do with their LTL operation.

    I decided to not take the gig. You guys are absolutely right. I figured I'll look around more closely for a position that pays a decent wage while I get the necessary experience for LTL.
