Had a freind call and tell me he is selling his grandfathers farm he bought few years back. His uncle is keeping the (non Case) brush hog and blade, but wanted to get rid of the original Plow, Disc, and mowing machine bought new with the tractor. His uncle priced the 3 implements at $300 which is a good deal..... but he called his nephew while I was there looking at it, told him that I had been good over the years to help them. Told his nephew that if I had interest to give them to me... wow what a shock!!!! It pays to be good to folks for sure. I have been wanting to get more folks interested in sharing implements with their tractors at my show, these will go great with my VA series Case tractors! Also had a man approach me last week, ask if I was the guy that hosted the local tractor & engine show. Yes Sir I am, turns out he is a member of the county fair committee. There is new blood on the board it seems, and they want to bring older farming equipment back to the county fair. He explained how the last officials ran it in the ground and treated the old equipment owners like crap. Soooo I may be working with the county fair trying to bring back the equipment side of the fair..... you can look at brand new stuff any day of the week right? Just drive past the local dealer! Good to be appreciated for what you try to do.

My Grand Dad taught me to shoe a horse. Watch them travel to see what they need. Building your specialty shoes like the heart bar and egg bar are the most trouble for me. Shoeing for those showing horses is where some #### good money is. Reining, cutting, those type of horses. I didn't like that part cause if their horse didn't have a good run it was almost always the farriers fault. Its been said they get more than their share of tail too. I didn't need or want them troubles. A good gentle one that can help a horse with minor problems is worth his weight in gold and gets to name his price. The main difference in cold shoeing and hot shoeing is setting the new shoe hot. You want to hold it just till the sole turns waxy. Pull it cool it and tack it down.
Didn't do sheet today. Layed around my grandsons came over to see me. We noticed the oldest kinda disappeared into the bedroom for a bit. He comes out sits on the couch and gives me the thumbs up. I wondered what that was about. I was getting ready to leave and I figured it out. He put some clothes, his pillow, and a sippey cup in my bag. He was planning to sneak off with paw paw. Kinda got to me so I'm gonna hang out with him till bedtime and roll. Any body wanna buy a couple ol Peterbilts? -
I watched Floyd (the gentleman I got the truck from) work with a horse named Red that the owners had "given up on" thinking he had a bad knee. Floyd brought the horse to his ranch, pulled his shoes and for the next 9 months worked on his front feet every week or two, watching him walk, adjusting the cut of the hoof to correct his gate and so on. When he put shoes back on the swelling in Reds knee was gone and he'd run around the pasture with the rest of the horses like a young colt. Right before Floyd took him home he put a saddle on him and rode an entire day in the foothills leading a couple new pack colts. Had Floyd not taken the time this horse would have been put down.
A good ferrier is worth their weight in gold, a bad ferrier can ruin a good horse. -
Not me. I would bring “dishonor” to the hibachi grill, Oldskoolsan. (Bows to show honor) However I bet I could do the onion trick that puffs smoke like a choo choo though.wore out, Al. Roper, PoleCrusher and 15 others Thank this.

I learned enough to shoe my own horses and sometimes for a friend, nothing special and don't pretend to be able to corrective shoe. For mine it was that or be afoot, so I learned enough to get by and not lame a horse.
My son worked for a Thoroughbred farm in Lexington for 6 years, ending as the assistant brood mare manager. The farriers were all contract, and I believe they made great money. The ones on the track probably a lot more!Al. Roper, PoleCrusher, ShooterK2 and 17 others Thank this.
