I'm on my way to Centralia, IL. No clue where I'm going from there.

Gilster Mary Lee? If you reload from there have a beer first those docks are in a different spot, and they suck. Yard dog made me slide tandems back before getting into dock, if you reload there and he says you need to tell him to pound sand, makes it so much worse.

Yeah it's Gilster Mary Lee. What sucks about them? Ugh today sucked hardcore, and now it sounds like tomorrow is going to suck too.

Usually when I have to slide my tandems I wait until I'm in the dock before I do it.

For what it's worth.. I used to wait until I was docked as well. However, this is what I learned over time. If you have to back into a tight area, especially between trucks or trailers, you're better off sliding your tandems first. Yes, you are more manueverable if your tandems are forward. The problem with that is that your tandems are forward. You're creating another problem. If your tandems are all the way back, you'll always know exactly where the back of your trailer is. You are much less likely to smack another trailer or (god forbid) another truck. I definitely understand that having a fixed 5th wheel presents its own set of not-so-fun issues. But you're almost always better off sliding your tandems first. As far as that 5th wheel goes, have some veteran truckers talk to the Millis family. It's a bad move. Adjustable is always better. Widening the gap between the trailer and the truck will result in lower fuel mileage, but it's minimal when you consider the benefits. Less likely to damage equipment, less likely to frustrate drivers. Food for thought. Just sayin.

Stupid side note. A long time ago on my first thread, I recommended ear plugs. I am going through some now that I got from (of all places, shockingly) Walmart. I went to their "tool" section and found some there. They have been the best I've ever used. Here's to another quiet restful night :)

Hi y'all, noob here from Cleveland area. Decided to change careers and trade in my cubicle for a CDL. Came on these boards to research what outfits to focus on and on account of this thread and a few others on TTR, I put in an application with Millis.

As my first post on TTR, I'm proud to report that I start my training this coming Monday in Trenton!

I'd like to thank you all for your candor and insight; this post in particular has been extremely helpful. I'm looking forward to meeting the team. Can't wait to get started.

Any last minute updated tips or advice before my journey begins?
