These people are really good for ideas. They have some good trucker-talk going. When/if I start hiring drivers, I'm gonna use that "prove you can do the job" thing for a year to pay really poorly.
Keep it coming!
Anything good about Werner?

you have a truck?
-
Werener didn't lie to me at all when i was with them. I trained on a dedicated account and ran that same account when I got my truck. The problem for me was the fact that the account was getting flooded with drivers so it slowed way down, and I got tired of the reputation of being in a werner truck. I would be talking with drivers and when they found out i drove for Werner alot of the times they got rude with me. I always blew them off, but after a while it got old. So I left and got shafted even harder by the next company. I shoulda stayed with big blue for a while I guess. Oh well hindsight is 20/20

Thanks for your honesty. I know where you're coming from on telling who you work for!!! LOL
Actually I don't mind if it's someone who actually worked for Werner who complains or comes up with something they think the world should know. I don't care much for the people who post and have never even walked by a Werner truck much less driven one or worked for the company. I've seen all the posts from people who think they know all about the company. Or they have a "friend" who drove for Werner. If this "friend" has a problem why not talk to someone in the company about the problem? If the "expert" hasn't worked for the company they can't really be an "expert" because they are assuming fact from people who don't know any more than they do. But like any other company or industry, there are so many "experts" who don't have a clue.

What I gather from all the testimonials combined, is that the first year, particularly the training/waiting process is likely to be hell, with roughly a 10% chance of satisfaction. After a year if you can stick it out, they may find you something suitable you can live with and would perform as a relatively average trucking job. The data also suggests that women have a significantly higher chance of satisfaction than men by comparison of the primary literature.
I don't see any other responsible way to interpret the data. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable passing on a recommendation based on the research. -
The first year of driving for anyone in their first year of driving, no matter who they are driving for is going to be hard. It's like nothing that anyone could ever imagine.
Rob, where did you find your data? I am especially curious about women having a higher satisfaction with the industry. Is that pertaining to driving or any job in the industry? Is that with Werner or industry wide? Please share with us, thank you. -
The data is You and Irocubabe. You are both complimentary of Werner. The gender of the multitude of complainers with the same stories are not always known but presumed to be largely men. There is a large disparity there.
Fact: The printed brochure I have on hand clearly states 33cpm starting salary. It has been confirmed that once you are there, the pay is 26 cents.
Fact: The training period has been extended from 150 hours to 300 hours, for fairly obvious reasons.
Fact: They have one of the most aggressive anti-idle policies of the trucking companies and it applies with or without an APU.
Fact: They continue to hire grads while trucks sit and freight is slow, and place the burden on the newhires to wait it out for truck placement. Fact they are DAC'd as "quit" if they do not continue training beyond the already doubled training requirement.
There is much more that is "alleged", multiple times over that is more difficult to pin down, namely that they are a rather large and unfair contributor to the inherent problem with DAC reports in general. Also lots of sour grapes with terminations etc. However the fact list is experienced by all. From this we can make reasonable determinations as to whether Werner is a driver-centered company that deals in integrity, truth, and therefore a desireable workplace for a grad.
Where no other options are present, then Werner it would have to be. However under normal circumstances these policies and requirements are not representative of the industry and with a bit of research you can see there are many companies that would present a better choice for your first year of "dues". One that pays what they say, that includes a reasonable training period, and actually has a job for you when you are hired.
On the plus side as opposed to some of the hit or miss companies on here, they don't write bad checks and there is a potential for good equipment.
I don't believe in constant coincidences. I won't be asked to believe the 5 worst rated companies are consistently the unluckiest companies on this forum when it comes to testimonials.
Reasonable people can disagree as to what factors make a company good or bad, but if they are good then there is no such thing as a better or less informed choice when picking.shredfit1 Thanks this. -
Bottomline, its slow everywhere, i don' care what anybody says. If they say there running hard, no matter what company, there full of it. I have been sitting from Sunday morning 2/22 to monday now. There is all kinds of trucks in the parking lot that have been doing the same. Two of them are Team Werner trucks and 1 other team from another company, so that will tell you right there whats happening in the trucking world. Iam a trainer and its been slow from the begining of January to now. I still get miles to make a living, But not what you can do when things are jumping. I have a great student on the truck and we are doing just a little more miles then i could do on my own. Its slow, Werner and no company out there can make people give them frieght to move, should be a little better in the coming months. Just hang in there if you just starting out, it will get better. Just be happy to have a job and making any money, or you can be like my last 3 students that quit and thought they could do better, Lose your home, car, and everything because you think there is all this work out there. Step up, and tough it out, if not, join the millions out of work.
P.S To all the people that think there running hard right now. you either don't know what running hard is, are you very lucky. Goodluck to all.luvtheroad and SuchatruckinLady Thank this. -
Hey if you think Werners anti idle policy is bad you should try Celadons. Before I left the company they were terminating drivers with a 40% over idle time. And that was a first offense. I talked with a buddy of mine still there and they climbed all over him for a 15% over idle time just last week. I could not believe it. this guy will hardly ever idle his truck, and the only time he does is when it gets extremely cold. I thought you all might like that little tidbit of info.luvtheroad Thanks this.
-
Oh yeah and Celadon has no apu's, the new prostars DO have an independent bunk heater which keeps you good and warm but I've heard the ac element ain't that great.
luvtheroad Thanks this.
