Have loaded cargo off and on to both over the years, and have luckily had internal tours of each. Both equally impressive, but watching an Antonov take off is something to be seen. It's just hard to believe it can get off the ground. Can only use certain long airports because of the length needed for it's takeoff and landing. All the Antonov freight I loaded/unloaded was at Harrisburg,Pa. Very long airport runway. The C-5 work was out of Dover,De.
Friendly Russian cargo worker, amazing the world cities they go,the Russians will do business with anybody. Two internal bridge cranes for rear loading, run the length of the cargo area. Nose flips up for Ro-Ro freight.

It’s a small world (even in a psych ward)
I got a call one night that a mental patient had gotten in a fight with a security guard. The guard was pretty roughed up, bleeding out of his ear drums and had to go the hospital. Another officer arrived and we went to the man’s room.
He was about 6’2 and 260, really solid. He had this 1000 yard stare. I asked him why he had been committed and he said “I’m a child of God, people want to hurt me.” Whenever a mental patient mentions God, talking to Jesus, or Televangelist Kenneth Copeland being their savior, you better get ready for a fight. I said “got any weapons on you? Mind if I pat you down?” He agreed, I checked his pockets and found a box cutter.
I said “why do you have a box cutter?” He told me he worked for a furniture company about fifty miles away. Wanting to develop a repoire with him, I said “my fiancee’s family owns a furniture company down near Jackson, Ms.” He asked which one and I told him. His face lit up and he says “we take all our damaged furniture down to them, they do really good furniture repair work”. He said I like Mr. K, he is a really nice guy. I’ve known him for years.
I told him Mr. K was my future father in law and he calmed down, ended up not giving us a bit of trouble. It was nice being able to tell my father in law “I met a friend of yours on a call in the psych ward the other day, LOL.”Last edited: Oct 11, 2018
