hello Cristina. how are you this morning?
no fault will pop up when clutch sensor goes bad. but if technician is smart and experienced can find out quick that clutch sensor is bad. DiagnosticLink 8.00 and up has ability to check it. once again the technician must be good one.
I have no idea how to convince your company. -
mhyn is correct. Even if they don't have 8.00 or newer diagnostics, they can use any universal program (jpro etc.) or the old prolink to check clutch switch operation. I wish I had a quarter for every bad Cascadia clutch switch that I have replaced!
mhyn Thanks this. -
I have this problem now with a 2016 & automatic transmission. When warm it starts ok. Such as when I shut down just to fuel.
On a standard I had to have the clutch switch replaced because it was faulty. This is another problem. But the clutch switch is inexpensive & easy to fix.
If I let it cool off 30 minutes, then turn key it just clicks for ~15 secs then starts if I am lucky. Till I see the shop I have been letting it run all night for fear of it not starting the next morning.
Many years ago I had same problem on a NEW Volvo Truck. They changed the starter 2 or 3 times... only to have the same problem.
Finally a GOOD MECHANIC cleaned & tightened the BATTERY & STARTER TERMINAL CONNECTORS. He did not replace the starter AGAIN... on guarantee. I did not believe the problem could be so simple. But I never had problems again.
A Freightliner Mechanic tells me these trucks (as was my NEW VOLVO) are notorious for building up corrosion on the battery terminals. CLEAN BATTERY & STARTER TERMINALS, then check tighteness before spending money on costly repairs. It might be just corrosion and perhaps getting loose from vibrations on our lovely highways. -
i sat on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting on a tow because my automatic cascadia wouldn't start. then i realized the gear selector was still in D.

Did you ever find out the problem? Was your shift panel not lit up? Having same problem.
-
go to dealer. automatic trucks have many different start interlocks....
-
I just want to share how I started my 2015 automated Cascadia after I had difficulty to start the engine that won't crank and you just hear a relay clicks.
It might come handy to move your truck to a better place. Especially for those in the middle of nowhere.
After I red this post I decided to hold the key on On position as much as I can and yes after 10-15 seconds something cranked and stopped immediately. I return the key to Off position and then to on position and engine started running. I still need to take it to a mechanic to check if it's the starter or the engine. -
that's exactly how i melted my first starter... click click click... I'll just hold it down...click click click...* clicks stop*...* what's that smell? * * what happened to the clicks *
