I have a keep Truckin Eld. I recently noticed that when I am in the driving mode the Eld shows me loca on the log. In some cases the location is where I started driving. In other cases, maybe a location from earlier in the day. Shouldn't location spot the blank when in the driving mode. I have been working with keep Truckin for about a month and each time they have me reboot. They sent me a new Eld and that does the same thing. Now they have to be rebooting it. A bit of madness doing the same thing over and over. Should a location appear when in the driving mode and has anyone else had this problem.

    Thanks, aFrank

Mine doesn't. In driving mode it shows you either 1 circle with drive time available or 4 circles with time to 8 hour, 11, 14, or 70, time remaining.
As far as the graph page, only visible when stationary, it shows the location you change duty status. So if you do line 1 to 4 for pre trip it will show whatever location then when you begin driving it will show that location. In the notes you can edit the location it says. So rather than 40.5 miles west of wherever, you can change it to just the town name. If you wanted to.

Okay, so when ever the graph changes to the driving position, it'll show the location where you began that driving event. I never noticed it before but what made it stand out was was showing the wrong location.

    Thank you for the information

Keeptruckin is using the cell phone towers as its location use your GPS and get the real location where you're at and put it in manually take out the wrong location

If you want a location stamp for midnite, you have to change duty status, even momentarily, at near midnite, unless you are sitting still, this is on EROAD.

It showing the location is part of the ELD spec. Required by law to be accurate within 2 decimal places of accuracy. Mid continent, that's about 1/2 mile or so. If it's not giving you that accuracy you need to get the unit fixed.

Incorrect. It's showing the proximity, from the (center of) closest municipality (with a population of 5K+), within a 1 mile radius of your truck (10 miles, if you're off duty or P/C). This location (with app-based ELDs) is typically sourced from the location settings on the mobile device (which is why you have to turn your location settings 'On.') These are GPS-sourced locations (aka SATELLITE) and have nothing to do with Cell Towers. The "1/2-mile" that ZVar mentioned above, is correct. But, that 1/2 mile is still (supposed to be) "generalized" to a 1-mile radius from the truck (while on Lines 3 or 4).

Prior to "The Final Rule" being published, many truckers, the OOIDA and ATA voiced their concern that ELDs would increase Driver Harassment, by providing "too accurate" of a location." They were determined to make sure that "this Federal Mandate, would not become an excuse to track driver's exact locations." As a compromise (and in observance of Anti-Harrasment Laws), the 1-mile & 10-mile rule(s) were put in place. Granted, there are Telematics Systems available, that are capable of providing this information. But, the ELD Mandate was not going to be a platform, for "Enhancing Driver Tracking." In a nutshell... People fought, to have the location "generalized" as it would be on a paper log, and Won. Would you rather, everyone knew "exactly, what address you are at?"

Ours are wired in, there are issues, like it's the nearest center of the nearest population municipality of 6000 or more, our yard can be 18 to 18.3 miles from that all in a Southeast direction.

Not much help in figuring out where you're at without a good map, and a pair of dividers with good reading eyesight, ie, real unhandy unless you happened to stop near such a population center for some reason, then you get asked why about that should you get stopped, I used to look at enforcement view for information.
    Not so much anymore.

Largely useless, unless you like the windshield mount failing at inopportune times dumping the unit and attached cord on the dash.

Yeah you go with that until you get a pissed-off. Guy that knows what he's doing and he'll know your ### for falsification so you have fun with that

I'm not sure what truckstop lawyer fed you that line of crap or which officer(s) you've managed to piss-off in the past. What I've provided above, is per "the technical specifications of the ELD Mandate - Provided by the FMCSA." Any Officer that isn't isn't aware of these FACTS and believes this to be falsification, Needs to go back to their 4-day course, to get their CVSA Certification back. If they weren't CVSA Certified Inspectors, they had no business viewing your log(s) to begin with, unless you were stopped for some other Criminal or Traffic Infraction. At which point, you were probably up a creek, from the get-go.
