Boy, ain't that the truth. I keep moving the truck because that's where I make my money. keep the door shut, make only your planned stops, know when and where you plan to stop, and you can boogie along all day long at 60-65 and do just fine. My company truck runs 68-69, but it's typically running about 62 or so. Leaves me something for passing.
65mph?!?!?

i was just inquiring...65 really isnt that bad considering the truck i have only goes a little faster. Plus the safety issue it is much better too i will agree!

You know I don't like governed trucks but I do because I'll go without thinking so it does help with the bears
-
I wish I knew what this meant...

I hate governed trucks, money is made by moving freight. Keep your door shut, hammer down, and ride with big tanks. Generally you can run about 20 over the limit and your radar detector will give you enough heads up to bleed pff the extra 20. In a state where the speed limit is 75 (like Montana for example) running 65 is stupid. Running 95 with the detector on, tanks full, and bare minimum stops will really get you some miles.

All diesel engines have govenors..........Some are set higher then others......
Boilermaker, how long have you been driving? -
I have 14 years OTR experience and just bought a dump truck. You?
-
Since 1979 and retired May of this year............You run your Dump truck like that or are you just waxing nostalgic?
-
Little bit of both.
I ran in the "bad old days" when 55 was it. What a horrible deal that was. Thank God for CB's, radar detectors, and fast trucks or I wouldn't have survived. Back in the late 80's Dallas TX was in the throes of a residential building boom. I scored a contract to run lumber (plywood, 2X4's, etc) from Portland OR to Dallas TX, then i'd pick up a load from Republic Paper in Oklahoma, and run it back. My wife went on the road with me and running team we'd make the haul from Portland to Dallas in 22 hours flat. Little faster in the summer with good weather. Do the math on that one. We didn't stop for anything but fuel. Oh and somewhere along the way we found enough time to conceive our third kid. Ran just as hard on the way back. We ran more loads and made more money than any other team. She went into labor in Kansas when she was driving, that's a great thing to wake up to in the sleeper berth. Stopped that #### truck so hard I thought I was gonna go through the windshield. Ahhh, memories.
My new truck is a blast, got plenty of power and she'll put it to the ground. Unfortunately I live in Seattle and it's super congested up here. Really no room to let that turbo spool up and see what she's made of. I-5 is a nightmare, and law is around every corner. I miss running loads through the desert at triple digit speeds, trucks shakin, tires are howling, and I just felt so alive.
Heck we probably chatted on the CB a time or two. We were running in the same era. My handle was Foolish Dreamer. Now it's Boilermaker, since that's my primary occupation and driving is a "hobby that makes a profit". -
Yeah, you'll need those miles to pay for all the fuel and tires you're going to eat up at 95 mph not to mention the lawyer you're going to need WHEN, not IF they catch you. Radar detectors are nice but are useless when the state troopers resort to "other methods". New Mexico, for example, is going back to using aircraft and VASCAR on rural stretches of interstate. I know for a fact that the NMDOT uses LIDAR. They may let a car slide with 85 in a 75 but not a truck!
