Hello, in Illinois the limit on a tandem is 34,000. But I believe that there is a higher limit that is called axle tolerance, does anyone know what it is. What if I get caught on a weigh station with axle weight that is above 34,000 but within axle tolerance. Would I be required to rearrange my weight before proceeding? thanks

I don’t think there’s a tolerance for legal loads.SAR and CrappieJunkie Thank this.

Lots of states have some sort of leeway for various conditions. Doesn't look like Illinois does. Only thing I see is exemptions for special operations.

Illinois is so broke they need all the money they can get, best thing to do when in doubt is navigate around the chicken house, all of them are easy to get around.
whoopNride and DSK333 Thank this. -
I try to do this in all states I travel through. I already have too many people in my pocket as it is.JonJon78 Thanks this.

Maryland will allow you 1000 lbs tolerance on an axle or tandem on a non-Interstate hwy.stwik and jamespmack Thank this.

Last time I was in MD in a truck 2008 or 2009. No plans of even visiting in a car but I do appreciate knowing that. Never know when things could change.stwik, PoleCrusher, whoopNride and 1 other person Thank this.

Chicago is a ridiculously dense market. LOTS of $$$ in Chicago. You should know this especially if you're a trucker. Illinois is broke meaning the state gov can't balance a budget. I rarely stop at a scale in Illinois. The troopers are not nearly as aggressive as other states that don't have state revenue like Illinois.

ok, so, no one knows for sure? What if I am stopped at a Illinois weigh station and my rear tandems are 34,500? 35,500? 36,000?

Go around them if in doubt.
Ill give you away around each if needed
