Riders and pet ok. Right now we don't offer any per diem. It is something that is on the burner though. I'm always looking out for creative ways to compensate my people, and this is one of the ideas that has been presented to me.

For what it's worth driver's, I talked to Jennie for a good little bit the other day. Although she knows I'm not ready to do something at the moment, she took time to answer all my questions and was very pleasant.

I was there for a short time. Joe and Jennie are nice people. I had a personality clash with Kelly the dispatcher so my taste was not quite as rosy as Joeziah. equipment is nice but it is short haul spot market freight. I was not willing to put in the extra hours or weekends to make the kind of numbers that Joeziah claims.

Well we appreciate the positive comment Dale, but there are a few things I would like to point out. While it is true that we run short haul freight, (20-30% spot market just like most smaller carriers) it shouldn't matter to the driver if the compensation is there. He is getting paid for his time no matter what he does. If he's driving he's getting paid. If he's sitting, he's collecting $25 an hour to sit in his sleeper and watch movies. There is a mentality in this industry perpetuated by the Mega's that drivers have to "turn and burn" to make any money. That is total BS. I have guys that are home weekends doing $60-65K a year on 80,000-90000 miles, so I'm not sure where the needed extra hours or weekends are that you are talking about. Extra hours and weekends are not required with us to attain those kinds of numbers. The weekends are there if the driver wants them though. Quite a few want them. With a lot other carriers you're running 100,000 plus miles and gross 52K if you're lucky. You yourself made .74CPM for every mile you drove for us. We told you when you were hired that we are a less miles for more money company. Nothing has changed. I can't make it any plainer than that. Me personally, I'd rather drive 80,000 miles a year for that $65K than 120,000 or more. If drivers are looking to run 3400 miles per week for .42 CPM and then have to sleep for two days to recover, then we are probably not for you. But if you want to make a good salary and drive about 1800-1900 miles per week then feel free to call us. I've been in this business for 11 years now, and I know how Romerica stacks up with other carriers from a compensation standpoint. I can sleep soundly at night when I say that we are in the top 10% of the best paying carriers in the industry if not top 5% due to our unique pay structure of both CPM and flat rates. A lot of folk out there 2-3 weeks at a time and bringing home a whopping $750 a week. So this is to just clear the air. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about our well above industry pay.

I bet there are a lot of drivers doing the “if it seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t “ reading these.
Only way to know for sure is see for myself...

I went ahead and took one for the team and went to find out if this was too good to be true or not. Yes, you are all welcome. :glasses1:

I arrived at Romerica last Tuesday and started running last Wednesday, running for 11 days now.

Orientation was simple and sweet, took a day. First impressions were that everyone there is incredibly nice and they view you as a business partner rather than a commodity. They are only a 20-something truck company but they feel like a larger operation in the sense that everything is VERY structured and organized. No "earn up to" gimmicks and no carrot on a stick bonuses. Just honest pay for good work. I can appreciate that.

As far as the pay goes, I've been averaging $303 per day in the 11 days I've been running. It would be a little misleading to share a CPM number as I did local-type jobs for a few of those days and miles aren't really relevant in this type of work, but I'll tell you that I'm getting that daily gross pay on around 7.5 hours per day of duty time.

The truck I was assigned is a '16 VNL 780. It's an autoshift. It shifts and rides a ton better than the '16 T680 and '15 Cascadia autoshifts I've had in the past. I'm assuming Volvo's technology is superior in this area. I've only pulled two different trailers so far, but both have been recently new and in very good condition.

A disclaimer: This job is a lot of time sensitive automotive freight. When it's time to go, it's time to go. A lot of the places you'll be going to are very busy, and can be slightly confusing, and can have some tight backing situations. You need to be a driver who communicates well, has patience, and can follow specific procedures with both the customers and Romerica itself to succeed. Basically what im saying, this isn't a newbie job. This is the gravy job that drivers want to get their few years of clean record experience to get.

Overall, I'm very pleased I went to Romerica and wish I had done it sooner. PM me if you have any questions specific to my experience, or better yet, just call Jennie.
