I think I had a rocket attached to my truck today. Ran 701.2 miles in 12h20m with 13h54m on duty time.

Border crossing, unload, trailer swap and actually found a spot to park (legally) at the King City ONroute at 10:30pm EDT.

And if I were on paper, I probably could have made it a couple more hours up the road, one helluva supercharged day. I don't think I'll ever pull something like this off again. Or at least not for a while. The stars and planets aligned on this one.

 

I was working a Homeland security detail watching the football stadium at MSU from 10 pm to 6 am before we played Oregon the next day. It was a counter terror measure, and I really expected it to be a slow night. Anyone on the property was to be arrested for trespassing. Ok, got it.

So, I am foot patrolling on the north end, wearing all black BDU pants, black T-shirt, and running shoes, couple pairs of cuffs, gun, flashlight. I hear a commotion coming from the southeast end and see four people have scaled an 8 foot iron fence. I radioed the other officer that we had company.

Apparently Oregon fans like to get drunk, and they were all running around on the field airplaning, diving, pretending to catch passes. Well, one of them saw me and the pack took off. If you’ve ever seen the MSU stadium, there are holly bushes right behind the players at the bottom of the stands. What I didn’t realize at the time in the dark is that those bushes are a lot further than they appear since they taper down.

So I grab the handrail in the stands, catapult myself to where I think I will land on the grass, and instead get holly sticker bush smack dab in the crotch. OK, ouch, now it’s on. I hurt myself, they aren’t getting away. I take off in a sprint towards them. He’s at the 30, the 40, the 50, They. Could. All. Go. To. Jail.

Ever seen four drunk 50 year old men try to climb an iron fence in dew covered shoes? It was almost worth it. Locked them up, including a high school principal, and ended up making 6 arrests total that night. Oregon got the last laugh, beat the brakes off MSU. It was a while before they put me back on that detail. Go Dogs!

When I was a suicide jockey I'd run through or into Tiffin quite a bit. Used to drop at that Speedway in town and at the Kroger, I think it was a Kroger...

Anyhow one winter day I was westbound on 18 heading home and big wreck right before town. So I check my map and hang a left and I remember there being a co-op there on that road.
