Halliburton Cement Hand for Almost 3.5 years, made Service Operator 1 before I left in San Antonio as my final destination. Cement will either be on call 6 on 3 off, or 2 weeks on and 1 week off! Good company to get a start with, and if you go cement. Lots of manual labor with either, and in all types of weather if your running jobs. I started off doing that in Pampa TX for the first 2 years, and then transferred to San Antonio! That's where things were done differently and I got cushion job just running the Winch Truck 2 weeks on and 1 week off!

You will need to know how to pressure up tanks, bang on them with a rubber mallet to detect levels of cement. Run hoses from water tanks, mud hoses (I hated those hoses) and drop bins on location, and fill them with cement for prep! Run your stand pipe, and line out section, Then you move on to a blender for flush, or premix; and then pump truck to learn how to run the dog's!

That's the way I learned, but there are always exceptions! You could be thrown on Super flush detail, or even Nitrogen! Those are easier jobs, but you will do a lot of them! Bouncing from one spot back to the yard and then back out!

    Good Luck!

OP, not sure if you're starting in cement or frac, if it's frac see if you can go cement. Cement is a much better way to start IMO. Way more down hole thinking. In frac the engineer in the van does all the heavy lifting.

Halliburton isn't just a place to start, if you're good it's can be a great place to stay. They shipped my ### all over the world. There's nothing like an equal time rotation.

I’m starting out as a cement operator trainee at the moment. Almost finished with the orientation part. Starting trucking school in 2 weeks. Everyone has said great things about it so far, just long hours and amazing OT.
Seeing the world is a plus. Hopefully my run here will be long lasting and fulfilling. Thanks for the feedback!

I was about to start an almost identical thread. This site has been the best source of info for first hand knowledge. I got hired as a cement op trainee for the Artesia plant. I start November 1st. I'm not a dollar chaser and can put up with quite a bit ( I was in the car business for 8 years). Looking forward to climbing up the ladder.

Those of you guys that have got their oilfield start with Halliburton and are still out there, are you still with big red or did you move on and why?

Well climbing the ladder was OA1 to OA2 was just 9 months and you got it, but that depends on the yard, and has variations depending on your yard. When I was in Pampa I never got out of OA1! The head boss and I didn't see eye to eye!
I got to San Antonio, and Was moved immediately; after they saw I was an OA1 for over 2 year to an OA2! Then I just had to take the pump truck test on the computer which I did about 8 months after I got there! I got laid off about 1 month after my first check came thru lol!

It was literally 2-3 days afterwards. They call you for an interview, then you show up. The kicker part of it all is after the interview they make you wait about 4 weeks until your orientation date. But other than that it’s an amazing opportunity. It might be entry level but it’s a decent check and the overtime when you get to the field is so worth it.
