Yes thanks for the information but that's just a small sample of the shady things that the brokers do another thing is they contact you for a load of watermelon that loads the next day and you accept the load and it is way out of the way in the country side and you arrive to find out that its still in the field and have to wait for another day to pick up the load . I found that they were just to underhanded and slimy to work for and I wasn't making much more money with all their deductions and schemes than I made as a company driver with much less responsibility so I left that company and am much happier being away from that place . But th

Dont get me wrong please, but its your fault as well. Before doing anything, not just trucking, you should always read your rights. In this case, if you read Landstar rules and regulations, you would know that you have every right to ask for TONU and even report the agent. I do know that some of the agents are terrible, and I totally agree with you on that part, but as in any work, you have good guys and terrible ones.

Yes I agree it was my fault for hiring on and not knowing anything about being an owner operator and they took full advantage of that fact . It didn't take me long to figure out that I was at the wrong place . And I did report the shady brokers and it was crickets . I was never treated like the way landstar belittled and insulted me . If they didn't like the way you did your paperwork they would shut the load board down and you couldn't look for a load until you took one of their online classes. How do I pay my bills taking their online course. They were just over top for me . Between the brokers and the office help . But that's just my opinion . I glad for you that you are happy there.

I’m sad to hear that you had a bad experience, I hope you did find better company where you see yourself and that it’s going great for you. As for me, I’m working at Landstar as Agent/Transport Coordinator, and tje reason why I joined this forum is beacuse I noticed a lot of people complaining about some stuff that are not strict, so just wanted to give a heads up when I can.

Thank you yes I am doing well now and I was able to learn enough to continue my owner operator career and be successful at it on my terms.
I just wanted to tell my experience it was an adventure that I will never forget.

The agents (brokers) at Landstar do not know how long you’ve been there unless you tell them, so from that side of things it has nothing to do with being new. There are some terrible agents, and some terrible loads, just like everywhere else. I agree that you’ll get crickets if you report an agent, and that’s because Landstar is just a big master broker so they protect their own brokers. Nothing you can do about that though except create your own black list and understand that no great driver will ever be more important than a garbage agent.

Some loads you have to learn about the hard way. Watermelons are a perfect example... anyone that’s hauled them once could’ve told you it was a mistake to book that load. You also should’ve known to ask about detention pay before you booked that or any other load in case of a delay.

How could you mess up the paperwork? All you have to do is write your truck, trailer, and trip numbers on the top page and send it in.

I’ve been at Landstar for five years, and I do very well here. The first 6-12 months aren’t the best, as there’s a lot to learn and not a lot of help learning it. Experience is the only thing that will help you succeed as an O/O with Landstar or any other company, and it sounds like you weren’t willing to accept that learning curve. No one starts at the top, sorry.

Yes agree no one starts at the top and it is clear that I am not landstar material. And I am sure that being an agent and not having to deal with all that I wrote about is a great position to be in. I'm happy for both of us. Good day sir

    Detention / Tonu

That was exactly my point, if you read you will see that you have right to as detention (depends on the customer, but in 90% detention can be requested after 2 hours. As for tonu, that is a MUST.

    Watermelon

I totally agree with you. If you see a good load on Landstar board, you should ALWAYS ask the agent whats the commodity. Try to stay away from watermelons/bees - things that can screw up your trailer

    Agents

I do not agree with you on that part. Trust me, BCO drivers can do a lot when it comes to bad agents, especially the ones that are spamming the board with fake prices (posted for 4k, driver calls, oh its 3,600 for example). After you call CS trust me, they will submit report on that agency. :)

The paperwork I was talking about was the log book . They didn't like my logs so they shut down the load board until I took their course. I guess what I am trying to say it was just a bad experience for me . I don't agree about the brokers ,I'm sure driver's have reported them alot over the years but they are big earners for the company so nothing is done .

Produce loads show as commodity type "Exempt".

Bees? Don't they always go on a flatbed?
