I've ended up in a residentianl area in Houston and couldn't find a place to turn around. Just so happen I came upon some cops directing traffic, asked them where I could turn around and the cop looked a lil puzzled. Just before I had contemplated a U turn. The cop asked if I could bring it around right there so I said yes, they blocked all lanes and let me do my Uturn.

and uturns tend to be part of the job, regardless of what anyone says, so do them safely, take your time, and keep looking both ways as you are turning, because sometimes your mirrors block your view of oncoming traffic -
i couldnt turn around, this is at 1400hrs, i just kept going until i came out of the one-way (thanked God no cops were around)
the stuff we go thru out here! -

I have done many U-Turns.
Also sometimes if you don't have enough room to make a U-Turn and you can 'safely' complete a left or right turn.
You can Turn Left backup and turn the way you came from. I have done that a few times as well.
Just have to be careful backing up on the road of course.
Depends on the situation and the Road you are on, that would be best in residential areas due to the fact there generally isn't much traffic there. -

In my little bit of experience that I have I am for U-Turns if they can be done safely and without embarassment of getting pulled out by a tow truck. I've torn up a wing trying to do a u-turn on small road (rookie) learned my lesson there. Now that I have my newer truck I set the fifth wheel way back and don't have to worry about damaging the wings. With my coocky co-driver he missed another intersection one night and it was on a four lane highway at night so I had him turn around and get right back to where we had to go. Now with my 7 months the best thing I have learned is just go slow until I find a big enough space to manuever a turn around.

I am a new driver, trying to get my 2nd ever delivery. I would say never make them. I did today and got a 206$ ticket. Not because of a sign banning it, or not enough room, or doing it dangerously, but due to some city ordinance from 1963 prohibiting it in Mount Juliet Tennessee.

I still find it hard to feel sorry the drivers that try to do a u-turn across a median on the freeways and end up getting stuck. Some people just have to learn the hard way.
Lepton1 and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
