I got mine this year just about 2 weeks after getting the finger prints.

All these comments seem strange to me as well. I have been renewing my Hazmat for ten years now and in PA I always had to take the test first, then fingerprint, then wait for the letter from Homeland and bring it back to DMV for license. They always send me my notification 6 months before my license expires. This is to give you time to perform all these steps. I will take mine 2 months early just in case. Last time my letter came the day after my license expired but thank GOD it was in their system and was approved. It just depends on how backed up they are.

Did mine last month, background check took 10 days.

I can only speak to NY state, just redid mine after letting it expire earlier last year, was roughly 2 to 3 weeks start to finish ( between background checks, fingerprint, written test).
I have a valid security clearance thru the govt from when I was active military and it still took about this time frame in NYLast edited: Oct 21, 2018

Pa does it ### backwards. They are a pain to deal with.... I just went through hell with penndot, FBI kept saying your cleared.... for the letter in the mail. Penndots "online" system didnt show it they refused to honor the letter it took almost 45 days fighting with penndot to get it straightened out.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
If I gave the impression I thought the other comments were strange, I apologize. I have held my CDL for less than 3 weeks and will be the first to admit how little I know in the grand scheme of things. I understand regulations may be different in other states and was merely sharing what I do know about how it is done in TX based on my limited personal experience thus far. Today marks day 16 waiting for Hazmat. My record is clean but I've lived in 3 states in last 10 years so they said expect the full 30 days. Will update when it comes through.

Got mine in April. Went on thurs, complete on Tuesday. It’s entirely dependent on where you live and what’s on your background.

Just received my new license in the mail today. Fingerprinted on 10/6. Letter from DPS is dated 10/16, letter from TSA dated 10/18, and new license postmarked 10/18. Probably been sitting in mailbox a few days but haven't felt like driving out to it in lovely weather we've been having.

My new driver got his approved in 7 calendar days. Did his fingerprints last Thursday, got an e-mail he's approved, letter on the way yesterday.
