Was just inspected at the port of entry on i90 east in south dakota. Level 3 clean, even looked at my qualcomm. Inspector specifically stated that trucks with elogs, the only thing that south Dakota ia concerned with is the hours add up on the Graphs.
He said my prepass flagged my company as needing a level 3. Not sure what he meant by that.
Did anybody get inspected for ELD yet?

I'm kinda hoping the average LEO starts getting so fed up with these things that they just look in your cab to see if you have a tablet or iPhone and shake their heads and say, "eh, good enough."
We're having so much trouble with compliance on OUR side it never occurred to me what kind of issues the various jurisdictions are having finding compatible software/hardware. Looks like this will be a cluster all around, might even result in everyone binning the things and playing "don't ask, don't tell" at the chicken coops.
(Run however you want, we'll only 'catch' you when you hit something. Of course then, we'll nail your tush to the wall!)
I'm now curious if this has started to hit the court system yet? Let's assume 80% of ALL violations found are pleaded out or paid off. So if the 20% of violations going to court, we should soon start to see the legal system starting to act on this issue.
The fun's just getting started -
Of course, for every one of those, there;s are three newbie badge-heavy millennial techno freaks that are out to prove themselves by drawing blood from every ELD inspection they do...... -
My first inspection since the ELD mandate. South bound US 287, Waxahachie,Texas, yesterday afternoon. Second time I've been pulled over in that area in the last ten years. I run through there about twice a week. Step deck with hazmat totes & drums. Real nice guy, State Trooper, very courteous, professional, personable, and enthusiastic. Young guy, can't have been out of Trooper's School very long. Never stepped up on the truck to look inside, never wanted logs. Checked lights, etc. Hazmat shipping papers, looked at the load, labels, placards, straps, etc. Climbed up on the trailer to look at the drums, etc, asked for the truck book for registration, permits, etc, I have the ELD stickers on the door. Texas deadline for ELD implementation is April next year, IIRC. I have never had an inspection where the officer never mentioned log books until now. So "clean inspection". I had the tablet mounted to the dash, running the Transflo HOS but there's no way he could have seen it because he stayed on the ground except for getting on the trailer. Positive experience overall. Will receive a $100.00 gift card from the company for it. Anybody in Texas getting ELD logs checked during inspection?

Reason for edit: dateBank_Lbr Thanks this. -
I never put my stickers on the door, are they actually required?
My attitude is, "ELDs are mandated now, and at this point it's just advertising."
And my ELD company has not paid me for any endorsement, nor have they earned it based on the quality of their product. So I'm not slapping a "this truck has (BIG HONKING LOGO!) ELDs."d281833, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Bakerman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Nope not required, mine are not very big or obtrusive.

I had a level 1 in ok . The inspector was looking my elog more than 20 minutes. Another old inspector from NM DOT just looked at my elogs 30 seconds. )))

We've been running ELDs for a couple of years now. For the first year or so the CHP would just glance at it, mumble something, and go on with the rest of the inspection. They weren't trained yet.
That changed.
At Cordelia this year several of our trucks were inspected and the inspector had his ELD procedures strictly in line. The driver had to show the hours for the last seven days, show that he could bring up how many hours he had available, and show his driving hours for that day. They also checked to see that we had a copy of the ELD owner's manual.
Cordelia has the reputation for being a nit-picking scale because it's used as a training facility but I would imagine the rest of the CHP scales are totally wired in about ELDs by now.
I know for sure that Cottonwood and Mt. Shasta know what they're looking at.Bank_Lbr, Moving Forward and Oxbow Thank this. -
I had a Level 1 Wednesday I-45 Southbound Centerville, Tx. The Troopers were buzzing around there like a bunch of mad hornets. The trooper looked at the eld, asked me to pull up the graph page for that day and the previous until he saw my 34 off. Got a new green CVSA sticker! Woo Hoo....! So I guess Texas Troopers are starting to check the eld.I think the deadline for Texas is April, If IRC.....

I am sure I repeat myself here but I am 100% certain that they check only for graphs painted in red and exclamation marks on the ELD tablet. Has anyone had been checked specifically for ELD being hooked up to the ECM and communicating yet? I don't think they have tools for such tests yet. A guy with the Keep Truckin app only (stand alone and fully editable) told me that this was his ELD and he's good and complaint as he passed a DOT inspection somewhere. The ironic thing is that the very ELD sticker on the door can give you a pass, while before, on paper, in states like AZ, IA, NE, OH, MN, WA to name a few, they often presumed the logs to be false and proceeded to check supporting documents.
I don't care. I did paper logs to my advantage too but this only shows that the ELD mandate is not yet as bulletproof as they thought it would be.Last edited: Feb 24, 2019
