My biggest issue is following distance — I know it’s something I need to work on. I don’t need you to call me about it every week.

In my three and a half years, I've found traffic awareness is the biggest contributor to avoiding problem situations. Exact following distance isn't necessarily a science like the pencil pushers make it out to be. Traffic changes within seconds, and sometimes you'll have four-wheelers closing the gaps you open whether you want to or not.
Reading what traffic is doing and reacting to changes, having the instinct to see it happening before it happens, that'll save lives. Not some snot-nosed college grad sitting in front of a computer telling drivers they are following too close. -
