When I chatted with Mr. H awhile ago about clutch choices he said to go with a Spicer Easy Pedal Plus with either the 1850 Ft-lb or 2050 ft-lb rating. He told me on a CAT 5EK the 1850 will handle 900 Hp easily.
It all comes down to how you drive the truck that will make a clutch last.

I changed my 1850 out to a 2050 on my programmed 14.0 liter.
At about 45 mile per hr or so if you tip in the throttle loaded the boost would spike up about 50 psi and cut the clutch loose.
This solved the problem.
I never had any problem on the big hills as long as I kept my rpm and speed up. -
Well you guys are making me have second thoughts. Maybe my vibration/shudder/speedometer fluctuation is not due to clutch slippage. I was just leaning that direction because this problem only shows up when I am in 18th gear and starting to pull a hill. I know this is when max torque is being used, so I thought of clutch slippage. I have not been to the mountains since overhaul to see reaction, but it shows up in any upgrade. I am just running out of options. I am working with a fresh platinum out of frame overhaul. Crank was balanced and crank and block checked for cracks. A new reman transmission about 9 months ago, and new 2050 clutch at that time also. I have replaced all ujoints and carrier bearing and transmission yoke. Driveshafts were balanced. My shop tells me the rear end oils/magnets look great. The truck is currently at the shop getting the rear suspension re bushed. I have my fingers crossed that maybe that was worn enough and putting my driveshafts a bit out of alignment. I doubt it , but i know they were worn with rust trails at 822000 so its worth a try.

Did by any chance you replaced the carrier bearing before you notice the vibration and if so which brand did you bought?
-
No this issue was there before and still there after new carrier bearing. Not sure on the brand name but I know it was through Peterbilt.
-
I have another clue to add to this issue. While I am backing up, I also get a really bad shake in my mirrors. (yes they do shake while going down the road also). Not as bad as in reverse though. I am not sure if this is a related issue, or something else. This has to take rear end problems out of the equation if I am even having symptoms at real low speeds. I am beginning to wonder if I got a bad Reman Transmission. Or is this just a common problem of the heavy 18 speed transmissions. I am narrowing this down to clutch, flywheel, or transmission. Something that has parts spinning at high rpm no matter what ground speed is.

Your clutch may have a broken spring in one of the disc, have you been under the truck and removed the clutch inspection plate?
SAR and stillwurkin Thank this. -
Yes the shop just adjusted clutch, and said they didn't find any parts or even shavings in inspection door. Clutch is not very old, so I hope not, but I do know I am over working it.
-
Springs can break for no reason, and they can stay contained, only way you will know is to drop trans to look at the clutch.
SAR Thanks this. -
Best advice right there. Don't go driving it like a goon and it will last a long time. If the old school RTOO 14613 can take 1750-1850 with a stock clutch and not heat up with a .62 od. I don't see why the new style 1850 cant hold up to 22-2300.SAR Thanks this.
