You aren't off base at all. More than a few of our team mates have extricated themselves the way you described.
In my case there wasn't anyone around. Not a soul for miles. I made the decision to go for it and pull that trailer off the wooden crane pad. Once that decision was made and executed, then it's my dime if I make the call for the dozer.
What if it Snows?

Can’t believe I did it.

Sent the boss a text this morning..
I’m about to drive into a 10 inch snow forecast. Over the Rockies. With a single axle drive only. On super singles.
His response...
A list of three runs. Right in a row. Can’t waste any time.
I still can’t believe I did it.
I was doing 20 in Vail pass. CDOT pickup following me. Am sure he was watching for any sliding of my trailer tandems. When he left. I got the impression he thought: “He ain’t no fool”. I sure ain’t.
Had vehicles slid off frwy. Fools. I’d tell them: Speed on! The emergency truck ramp is only half full!
Saw a cop blocking east bound. Driving about 35 in center. Slowing traffic to a safe intelligent pace. They were getting tired of hauling vehicles back onto the shoulder.
What a day!Dave_in_AZ, skellr, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
