It's not bad at all, pays decent and we take turns. Not sure who did it this week, @kylefitzy did it last week then took my pilots and left when I get here. I'll cover here till Tuesday then the next victim will get here and I'll tote the mail (at a blistering 64 mph) back to Texas and get moved into my new place Thursday.

 

So I think I might have an answer, well I have an answer and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Ambient air temperature will not make much difference in the coolant temperature except in long, hard, hot and high altitude pulls as it can't remove the heat as efficiently. Typically though, the water temperature will not vary much because the thermostat determines the water temperature and regulates the flow.

Rear ends are a different story, they're air cooled and as such will run warmer in higher air temps but it's not linear, in other words they don't run 100 degrees warmer on a 100 degree day than they do on a zero degree day. I'd say a decent estimate would be they run 25% to 33% warmer for every degree the outside air temp increases. Now watch when you hit rain, the temps in the gear boxes will plummet because the water hitting them carries away much more thermal energy than air.

And forgot to add, I've never overheated pulling a 13 axle up Needles when it's 110 degrees but I've overheated running the same load on level ground near Ft Macmurray when it was 50 below zero......twice!

 

Interesting. Did you overheat the coolant or the rears?

If coolant did it begin to freeze in the radiator?

 

Smooth as silk so far. I was able to get the lash set right at .007" and the radial runout was right around .008" when I was done. I put new temp sensors in. Run about 130 to 150 degrees.

Coolant and that's exactly what happens, the engine wasn't working hard enough to keep enough flow through the radiator allowing it to freeze up in the bottom which stops the flow and overheats.

 

Dang Shooter, if you are taking pictures with your phone, it certainly enhances color better than mine.
