pay minimum wage

Who in their right mind wants to drive that many miles a week?

 

Lol... Its not for everyone that's for sure. And im the sole bread winner for a family of 4.

 

I hear ya, that's rough though... Having to rely on turning that many miles all the time takes a toll on ya.

 

The way many Companies hang their Drivers out away from home may stop if Drivers were paid Minimum wage with overtime after 40. Assuming pay for 1 week minus 34 hrs. At $7.25 an hour totals $1312.00 a week. Which is about what I think the Job should pay. More pay for Company Drivers Equals more pay for O/O s , higher Load rates etc.I don’t think it will ever happen.Anyone who has gone from hourly pay to mileage has done the shocking math.Everyone no matter o/o Company Union Non Union etc should support higher pay and get rid of this “ I’m only worth what they say I’m worth mentality”Nothing is gonna change otherwise. Time to EXPECT good pay Not HOPE for it

 

I agree this would be a huge change for the better for the majority of drivers out there. I'm lucky that I work for a company that gets me home every 5 to 7 days... Which also makes it easier to consistently turn big mileage. I also get paid more the more miles I run... 39 cpm is just my base rate, once I cross 11k miles in a calander month my cpm starts going up. And the increase in pay affects all miles ran that month and is paid in the form of a bonus. In August I ran 14639 miles and my bonus check was over $500.00... If I had crossed 15k my bonus would have been over $700.00

 

There are plenty of drivers that like to run hard, but can't find a place with that many miles.

this would not apply to all drivers all the time.

for instance, i am paid a salary, no matter how many hours i work. and frankly, i'd say that close to 98% of the time, that pay structure works for me, with no problems.

however, YES, a driver working the docks, should be paid some sort of "minimum" wage be it $15, $20, $30 per hour. not the federal minimum wage scale.

 

I think some of these companies that are offering competitive decent salaries for otr drivers is the way to go. Its a better environment for it now with the eld's..They can't just drive you forever anymore. You sit for bad weather, breakdown, etc. Your getting paid, no need to worry about nagging your company to get 100 bucks( the same rate it was in the 90's btw) or that big $30 for detention.

On the other hand.I am sure a lot of the megas will figure out a way to get around it and pay no more or less than they pay now if they can get away with it by spreading out less detention pay per hour or upping health insurance costs or the like.

 

The issue I have is that nobody is forcing drivers to work for companies that don’t pay detention, etc. There will be unintended consequences with this. Oh that $50 we used to pay for tarping? Well it’s only $8 now because it took you an hour.

 

How much experience do you have? You should be getting a lot more than .39cpm. It's nearly 2019.
