Hello all,
My truck is throwing up different fault codes every time check engine light pops up since last week. Once it asked for a parked regen and warning of going into derate mode. Performed parked regen and everything was fine for a day. On second instance 3 fault codes and signs of derate mode but no request of regen. Pulled up at a truck stop and tried to regen but failed. Engine went into derate mode so i pulled out the speed sensor and drove for 40 miles before it asked for another parked regen. Since then drove about 1000 miles and no issues. Any one have any idea or experienced this before?
Codes on first day
Spn 5392 fmi 31
Spn 3363 fmi 2
Codes on second instance
5246 fmi 16
5394 fmi 17
4094 fmi 18
I checked online and these are all dpf related
Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help.

One of these folks should be along with an answer in the right direction. When is your last dpf cleaning? Doser injector cleaning? Nox sensors replaced? -
these are not dpf related they NOX related, so that being said your fault code 5394 fmi 17 is actually the def doser valve not working properly. This is the place to start. not so sure it is def doser as much as it being the wiring going to it most of the time gets messed up, next thing i would suggest is to check the flex bellows between dpf and scr replace clamps and gaskets and clean up old def residue inside if never done so before, after this is done run it thru all the test as far as scr testing and all and make sure it can perform proper regen and 5394 fmi 17 does not come back if they do then next step is to look at the nox sensors and so forth let me know if you need anything else.
QUALITYTRUCK and shogun Thank this. -
Thanks for the replies guys
Got my dpf cleaned about 200k miles ago when changed the turbo. Nox sensor was replaced about 2 years ago and the def doser, is it also called Ahi module? It was changed about 3 months ago. Will look into the clamps and gasket and will let u know what happens next.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
200k isn’t bad if you don’t idle a lot. I think the cycle for a 2013 is around 250k for a cleaning and new nox sensors. I had less than 1% idle time and made it to nearly 300k, but I had a hole in my pipe allowing some of the stuff to get out before it hit the filter, extending the mileage before cleaning. You might consider a 10w oil too with less ash and soot.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I do not idle my truck (3 nights last year), about 30mins for warm ups.

Nasriza is spot on. DEF doser is also called def injector by some. It is not a module. 2 years is a long time for a nox sensor to last. Nasriza is correct in his belief that this may be a wiring issue. Very hard to begin tracking without Volvo diagnostic program to put you on right track. In fact hard to track down even with software!!

Nothing to do with Ahi module same code 5394 but dim 1 not 17. I wish u good luck with this whatever I can help with let me know this code is always a pain in the ### to fix for me most of the time problem is something really stupid even bad def quality sometime it’s just a pain all around

Friend of mine going through this now
He was 200 from his yard when "scr performance low will derate soon came up with check engine light " came up he called me told him to keep driving he did all 200 miles to his yard. This morning he called back saying he went to volvo dealer and they the estimate they gave him is about 6 k .
So he paid for diagnosis 250 I think and unplugged the speed sensor and just left the dealership.
Here is the diagnosis. [ATTACH=
Now he is looking for def tank, the cover and gaskets and all the fittings ,he found one for 350 includes cover and all also looking for def pump and a mechanic out side of dealership near Philadelphia area hope it works out for him.
But as i learned on this forum from you guys.
Although he has diagnosis report from dealer still there are number of things that he still has to do maybe like, nox sensors doser injectoer,7th injector, emission, sensor, pressure sensor ?,checke the line. Heat wraps. Egr valve clean and maybe egr cooler, just too many things could go wrong till he gets going.
Oh and since he got the truck used 2011 670 he put 160 k miles on it never cleaned the dpf filter or any thing.
He is seriously thinking of delete now.Last edited: Oct 26, 2018
