Hi everyone!! Been working hard and driving a lot, got over 7 months now on the job with Sygma. I got the opportunity to drive my 1st Freightliner yesterday. Very nice handling tractor and drove straight as a arrow!! It was a bit of a learning curve with shifting it though. It seemed the gears were much tighter and much less forgiving then the Volvos I normally driver. For downshifting it seemed you had to bring the RPM's up much higher for a smooth shift, possibly because the RPM's drop quicker?? For a while when upshifting I had to go back to double clutching until I got used to it a little more. I still double clutch all the time when downshifting though, just a habit I developed. The only other thing I didnt like about the Freightliner I drove was the fact that I couldnt adjust the mirrors without rolling down the windows and moving them by hand. All in all though very nice truck compared to some of the volvos in our fleet.:biggrin_25525:

With the size of cabs in modern trucks I would think power mirrors should be considered standard equipment, at least the passenger side, because getting in and out of the truck or climbing across multiple times to set the mirror can be tedious. My wife is much smaller than me and I have to move mirrors all the time in the cars and the Suburban, and it's a pain, but it's one of those things you have to do.

Friend of mine has been driving various Freightliners for Schneider for a few years. She couldn't stand the amount of repairs the company trucks required and signed on with another SNI fleet owner. She hasn't had a lick of trouble since. It all depends on how the truck is cared for. The more drivers behind the wheel, the more cause for error.

I drove a Freightliner for 2 years had very little trouble with it. Occupant is right about the more drivers driving the same truck causes more repairs.
Take care of a truck and it will take care of you.
