The one guy saying he knew what he was doing in getting the $40,000 in loans, but doesn't feel like he should pay it back because school should be cheaper.... His mother should be booted in the blankety blank for raising this entitled brat.

Higher education would be cheaper if student loans and available credit to students wasn’t so abundant. When an educational institution realizes government will make ANY amount of loan available to cover WHATEVER the basic tuition is, then they soon realize they no longer have to be concerned with normal economics and competition and have carte Blanche to make salaries and administrative costs anything they want, raise tuition accordingly, and the loans will just have to get larger.

Anything you throw money at with virtually no limits becomes more expensive and less effective.

Just requiring a student to cover 20% of the yearly costs up front [every year] would stop most of this nonsense, immediately. If they don’t have it, then they get a job and forget about school. This used to implemented regularly and called “tough love”

I find it interesting that they have learned in life it's better to leave your country than to pay back a loan that you signed up for. That being said I also realize that there's a lot of predatory lending to these young people who have little realization of what they're getting into. And the idea being " sold" to them.that to be a success they need to go to college.

If these loans could be discharged in bankruptcy court there wouldn’t be so many lenders lining up to loan cash.

It would take several years for schools to get rid of their over-paid tenured professors and admin staff but it has to happen if higher education costs are ever going to come back in line with reality. They need occasional tough love market corrections, too

Maybe if students shopped these colleges/brainwashing institutions like they do cars the price would go down.

I can’t help but feel that probably half the kids in college today are there just to party and kill time and postpone [work] reality 4+ years

They're probably in college under pressure from clueless parents.

Oh well, I have a 2 year degree I'm not using and I'll have to pay it back truck driving I guess.

I'm not sure I hold it against people who bail though. I mean if they fail to get into the industry they studied for what are they going to do? If they settle for burger flipping or retail, they'll never pay it back or might face the threat of garnished wages. Even if they wanted to do the right thing, they can't.

I also think some employers are being unreasonable with demands for experience and certifications in addition to the degrees. I also think it's often these same types of companies doing media interviews saying they have unfilled high paying jobs and need the College system to get them qualified people. They are telling people misleading bullsh;t because these same people are holding out for experience. I fell for it myself studying Cyber Security and it was a huge mistake.
