There are a couple of ways for the US to do that and none of them are palatable to half of the citizens of America.

If they know there is no way to work without a visa most will not come. Employment is the big draw. You’ll never stop all of them.

I literally pay an extra $45 every time the yard guy is here because he does not hire illegals. Every other lawn service in our town is cheaper, but they are all using slave wages for illegals to do the labor.Midnightrider909 Thanks this.

Your yard guy should not have to compete with the others. He should tip off ICE.

It isn't a dig on you personally. I know you never whined about laws and such. I've seen many of your posts in the past. It was really more of dig to other drivers who fuss about laws. I'm aware of the laws and in theory they should be followed, but that'll never happen. I'm more focused on the reason why this occurs. People will do whatever it takes to upgrade their lives, regardless of where they live. They think they can do better here, and thought is enough for them take that risk. Again, I'm not talking about the law. They're doing what is best, and what is the most direct path to life improvement, which is to cross over illegally, work, get some money together, and maybe go back(some).

Upgrade their lives...
You know in those pictures we see them waving their countries flag, in washed clothes with backpacks full of supplies. None of them appear to suffer from famine, clearly they are healthy walking 35-50 miles a day. One does wonder what restroom facilities these folks are using to maintain such fresh faces looks.
For such a downtrodden and endangered group they sure seem eager and happy.7-UP and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
Well, only thing I can say is we may end up with a price war on chimichangas, quesadillas and hot tamales. Which is good. That $8 may possibly get down around the $5 dollar mark. That's a win in my book.
However, we may see a rise in our cost in taxes on the backside of things due to the government financing these new cooks and their families. I think its gonna be a wash @shogun .
I was personally hoping America would come out ahead here on $5 quesadillas. Let's see how it goes.7-UP, 4mer trucker, KillingTime and 2 others Thank this. -
Probably plenty but that’s beside the point, which was it’s certainly possible for a people to change their country, even though in those cases it took war for independence from the British.Swiss Mountain Dog Thanks this.

Totally agree. What people don't understand is the economic impact for these displaced workers having to get back to their respective locations. And who fills that role in the meantime? How many people can edge a yard then cook a corn tortilla to perfection?
It will be interesting to see the if price of avocados, cilantro and corn drops as restaurants can't keep the seats filled. I think the short term play is to buy up lowrider S10's cheap and be ready to sell them for a profit when the workforce returns.4mer trucker, BoostedTeg, KillingTime and 2 others Thank this.
