290wb vs 300 wb 389

It’s an option I do open deck work otr for now what I’ll be getting into with it is a toss up some places I’m glad to have the 244wb I have now not a constant thing i usually don’t know what I’m getting into until I get there ..I was told it adds 800lbs for the 300 one of the reasons I’m leaning more towards the 290 they sure look nice with those custom frame inserts tho

From my understanding its mandatory per peterbilt engineering that anything over 290" or 46k rear ends and you get a frame insert. Ive got a 2018 388 with a 312"wb and a lift axle set 90" forward of the front driver and Ive got a liner from the rear of the frame to the back of the cab. I personally wouldn't get over 280-290...... 290 would be absolute max for me. I have a 270 389 and love it..

Unless you are pulling a tank you'll probably want to avoid a tractor over 280" long. Or you are specing something for extra axles.
Getting a 244" short hood 379 with a 53' triaxle flat deck into some places is a challenge for me. I couldn't imagine another 4-5 feet of truck with a 12 foot split tandem. -
I find it interesting that guys with long wheelbase trucks aren’t the ones I see with the fenders held on by zip ties; the wheels all banged up from curbs; the fairings all busted off the bunk and fuel tanks: I wonder why that is.....
Must be that they have more practice using equipment that size.
I guess all the guys running those super maneuverable trucks are busy counting money, what with all the time they save maneuvering in tight spots.
