Do unto others, as you'd have them do unto you. Sounded good and seemed to make sense when I was about 10, still does.
Dunno what makes some people tick. But when I recognize someone's a dark horse, you can risk getting involved or just keep walking.
Having made such evaluation, should someone take a chance on said dark horse, probably shouldn't expect too much, then you won't be disappointed.

Expecting loyalty from a lowlife is like waiting for fleas to write you a letter of appreciation.

This has been topic of conversaion lately at a buddy’s family business. Let me ask you guys this...
If you see an advertisment for drivers pumping septic (straight truck or T/T) or running roll off. Paying $28-$30 an hour time in a half after 40 with 50-55 hour work weeks. Would you take the job?
They have some lets say less than desirable people employed now. They say it don’t matter what we offer we can’t find good/reliable people.
For those who yank tanks now and run pumps. You know you don’t have to wear any poo. That’s what ppe is for, and if you have hauled chemicals before you know to not be spilling anything.
Roll off about the only thing that should be getting dirty is your boots.
But public perseption is what it is and people see the type of work and go the other way it seemsaustinmike Thanks this. -
There is no loyalty in trucking.
Not from the company,
Not from the driver,
Not from the broker,
Not from the shipper,
Not from the receiver,
Just the way it is.
As soon as you realize this the better.
Keep one eye on the classifieds all the time.
You never know what might pop up.
The only thing that matters to the driver is
Are you paying me enough to put up with all
The crap that comes with the job.
The more you pay them, the more dirt they
Can eat without quitting.
Your gonna leave that milk job one day
For a better job. we all do.
When your making 1500 a week instead of a 1000
For working the same amount of hours, you'll
Realize then what we've all been trying to tell you.
Then you'll understand why your boss can't
keep any drivers.
Him being a good person doesn't pay my bills.gentleroger, bottomdumpin, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'll say that right now the hours worked fits in with my child care needs. Working 6am-3pm gets me out in good enough time to allow me to pickup my kids and minimize how much I'm paying the babysitter. When the kids get older my needs may change. I still don't want over the road. I'm also interested in maintaining my marriage of 14 years. Seems many people in all facits of life don't value marriage. I do. Almost 20 years with the same fantastic woman is a long time.
magoo68 Thanks this. -
My biggest thing in the long term is going to be trying to find a job that pays on 5 or 6 days what I now make in 7.
-
You should not have to work 7 days a week.
You must live out in the middle of no where
With very few trucking jobs to choose from. -
Truck driver?
Doctor?
Lawyer?
