The dairy hauling industry as a whole is short on drivers. I'm starting to think no one wants to haul milk anymore. Frankly I know this industry well. I started as a production worker at stueben foods in 2009. I worked up to a raw milk receiver. When I got my CDL, milk hauling was familiar turf.

My first year here is almost complete. I will gross 55-60k, have a set route with the same farms, have a boss that leaves me alone to do my job, was assigned a really nice kw t880 with an 18 speed manual just like I wanted. The boss has helped me out in a time of need (personal car broke down he came and got me).

I like it here and for the foreseeable future I'm staying here with no plans of leaving

 

this individual does not have a wife or kids, he is a 40 year old living at mommies house. he was working as a manager at a fast food hell hole when my boss hired me. apparently he decided the money was not enough. my boss provided him with over a month ridding around in a truck, he fails the roadtest multiple times. he finally passes the road test. he threatens quitting 2 months later. i really think he should have driven at the company for a while. personally i would have told him to 1. go back to trucking school. 2. come back with a CDL class A AND a tanker endorsement and you have a job.

oh well, i disagree with him using company resources and leaving quickly..... but its not my problem.

 

its sad that most people dont value marriage anymore. i place a great deal of value on my marriage as does my wife. we met in 2001 about a month after 9/11. she was only my 2nd girlfriend. till death do us part. marriage can be a great thing if you choose wisely.

sadly one of our drivers IS going through what you are describing. he did not choose wisely. his wife cheated on him, they separated. he took her back and she cheated on him again, he is filling for divorce. he has two beautiful young daughters, in fact he had his 7 year old in the truck with him ridding around with dad. he says his daughter loves ridding in the milk truck. his wife has some drug problems apparently and he is fighting for full custody

there is a difference between a female you just want to have fun with and marriage material to spend the rest of your life with.

as for my wife and i we have two boys. mathew is 7 years old (he has gone for truck rides on multiple occasions now and loves it), and noah who will be one year old november 3rd. noah actually rode in a truck once already. boss called me, i had to go load a farm for a driver who was in the hospital with a dying mother. it was an emergency and the boss was aware i had a very young, young man with me. he was in his car seat and properly buckled in. it was about a 7 mile ride, but my 1 year old has been in a truck with me already...... start them young LOL. my boss was away camping and he had no one else to send. the milk tank must be emptied and washed so the farmer can resume milking.
