Great ? ....... But no .... Or at least there was never anyone around when I was doing DG loads. Would be worth swinging by one of those areas were imigrants hang out at waiting for people to hire them for day of work.

Don’t do it. Pay is not good. I was south east out of Florida and Georgia during the summer months. They issue you a crappy back up camera for a reason it’s a cluster you know what 4 wheelers everywhere peds. The roll tainers are in disrepair wheels missing chunks netting is torn. Freight is packed by oafs jammed in with no care. Store personnel apathetic losers who keep back rooms in disarray. Never enough u boats to go around. You’re expected to pick up their cardboad usually it’s spilling over the roll tainers and on the ground. Trailers have lift gate problems and you get hassled to try and fix it yourself before calling over the road maintenance. You need to pick up and count all totes and mt roll tainers. I switched to OTR and make more doing less work. In cooler weather it might be better but forget snow and ice on those lift gates!!!

I am in training on the Dollar Account and it isn’t that bad. You get .58 cpm, $30 per stop and $50 per unloaded trailer. Average 420 miles a day and 2-3 stops per day. Pick up trailer on Monday afternoon and drive to first stop. We sleep in the parking lot and unload at 8 am when they open. Then go to the second stop, and once trailer is empty we go back to DC and get another trailer and repeat. Can take any where from 45 min to 2 hrs per stop depending on the amount, but usually not more then 4 hrs of unloading per day. You’re pushing a cart on to a ramp then into a store. I am a fat dude and have no problems with it.

I will say the recruiter said home on weekends for 48hrs but first Saturday didn’t get back till 930 pm and have to leave around 130 pm on Monday and second weekend got back at 130 pm and left at 130 pm Sunday. So it just depends on your load for Sat.

If you’re lazy then look for a drop and hook but honestly the job is not bad and breaks the day up from driving.

While in school I researched a lot of companies and each one had its perks and dislikes. Werner’s training paid the most from what I researched and that’s what I went with. If you have to go to the Allentown Terminal then request a different terminal. The hotel is under construction and is horrible and when you graduate you will be lucky to get a nice truck from what I’ve been told. They have only a few trucks and you will get what they have whereas the other terminals have over 100 new trucks to choose from. Good luck!

I'm doing an account often close or next to dollar generals. The backs I have seen didnt look worse than what I have to do. Just take it slow. Get your codriver out there to watch your blind areas. Sometimes we park for the night next to each other for appointments we both got the next morning.

I started driving OTR with Werner, it’s a great way to learn the industry and they hire newbies. I did not have an APU or inverter and after having one in my new companies’ truck I would refuse to drive for a co without one, it is just so much easier to cook and cool your food which saves BOOKO dinero and enables you to sleep comfortably in places where food is inaccessible. The money I was making was not great 500-600 at week take home after a few deductions and medical insurance. It’s better than being a hobo but definitively not fair for the work and sacrifice involved. In the long haul however after 6 months of experience there will be a lot of companies out there vying for your employment throwing much more $$ at you to come be the warm flesh -pile that navigates their trucks. Werner was a necessary stepping stone for me and I’m grateful they gave me the opportunity to gain experience in the industry and I learned a lot from them. I had to ride with a trainer and that was an experience to say the least memorable but not desiring to be repeated. Their equipment (trailers) were well maintained. DO NOT do their dollar general account!!!!!

There’s a Werner training terminal in Commerce City, Co.
There is an unusual Dollar General in Commerce City, Co. It is an old huge store with a huge open parking lot.
I always imagine Werner taking their trainees over to that DG. Saying: See! DG is easy! :laughing-guffaw:
BYW: Werner has Sage Trucking School trailers in that terminal.

Rarely, DG has supermarket style locations complete with loading docks. The vast majority are holes in the wall best suited for a day cab delivery. It can be done however as evidenced how DG stays in business. When you’re with your trainer you might think eh this isn’t so bad but think you have two guys unloading the trailer now. It wouldn’t be so bad if they changed out the roll trainers for pallets and a proper electric pallet jack. But this would take up valuable merchandise space in their trailers which they take every #### inch of to the ceiling and beyond. The roll tainer scheme is beyond ridiculous. If you are a formal sumo wrestler or line backer that happens to have a cdl then you should do fine otherwise it is an injury waiting to happen on this account. Wear steel toed shoes I took a toe nail off when a roll tainer rolled over my foot. Be weary of the pedestrians, and vehicles coming to and fro as you back. This is not a job for newbies I cannot believe Werner would hire someone fresh out of driver school (me) to do this account. They must be hurting for drivers on this account BAD. I left promptly and joined their OTR account.
