    There is suppose to be a waiver that can be gotten from FMCSA.
    Go to their ( FMCSA ) home page and check it out....
    Will more than likely take awhile to get the waiver....
    I think you need to be under Drs care for 6 months w/ NO
    hypoglycemic problems and such....

    panhandlepat Thanks this.

    According to the FMCSA site
    link http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regu...sp?chunkKey=09016334800238b9&keyword=diabetes

    b)(3) Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus currently requiring insulin for control;

    Diabetes Exemption

    link http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/topics/medical/exemptions.htm

    An individual may apply for an exemption from the diabetes and vision standard, section 391.41(b)(3) and 391.41(b)(10) of the regulation, by utilizing these programs. If you do not currently meet the diabetes and/or vision standard and are unable to obtain a medical card, you may be an eligible candidate.

    Please e-mail all questions concerning Driver Exemption Programs to [email protected].

    Without this exemption, taking insulin shots is an automatic
    shut down- you fail the physical......

    If you are paying out of pocket for your CDL school, definitely try to get a prehire first. LOTS of people are being dismissed from orientations for medical conditions that are not a bar from holding a CDL (even when the recuriter knew about it), things like hypertension. A condition requiring an exemption isn't going to help matters much. The companies are very picky right now and also don't want to get involved in paying claims right off the bat if they can help it.

    Good luck though!
