A Carrier needs to do that with ALL Brokers no matter the name. It's written in every Carrier/Broker Agreement I've ever signed. All negotiated terms must be in writing and signed by both parties...period.

I tell you guys this to date the best carrier when it comes to paying your detention is JB hunt, they make it a piece of cake, for one don't be late if you late it's in your dime, put your in on out time on your bol, don't lie about it because they will know, you don't have to go through no hoops on hurdles to get your money,

I'm the Carrier. I put the in/out times on the BOL and invoice it. I get paid every time. You know why? Because I have it all in writing on the rate con before the truck moves. Same goes with my cancellation fees/TONU. I suggest anyone else that's actually running a business to do the same. Or you can continue charity trucking until you go under.

I'm the extreme rarity with TQL it seems or I've just been getting really lucky. Every load I've pulled for them has been nothing to complain about at all. Other than their incessant nanny checks calls. I've even billed $100/hr detention invoices (5 hours on my first run ever with them) that were paid on time no issues.

The entire last week of September I pulled their freight exclusively. I didn't have to look for a load at all. Got rates and accessorials that made me happy with no problems. I will say that I'm extremely cautious when I do deal with them and I actually turn down about 90 percent of the work they offer me because the rates just weren't where I needed them to be.

Sometimes words written in text do not come across the way they were intended, so if I misunderstood you let's have a good conversation. Here is what I hear you saying.

Okay, so I'm headed to an unknown shipper with an unknown broker with an unknown receiver and I'll be tied up for an unknown amount of time. I could be in and out within an hour or two or I could be tied up maybe overnight. Please tell me mr. Broker how do you price something like that? If I knew I could get in and out and I would do it for $1,000, where's the price? 1500 1800 2000? Then the broker will say, I have guys to do this every day for $650. So you're saying getting up and going to work should be like going to the casino and seeing how you do rolling craps?

Again, what does that mean? Where exactly do you draw the line? I'm sure Brokers don't believe in that type of thing, because then they have to get on the phone and go to the customer and try to get money out of them. Why would they do that for the trucking company? They could be on the phone with someone else making more money. Their goal is to move Freight as cheaply as they can and if trucks get hung up, oh well. Doesn't affect me I get paid the same. Sucks to be the trucker. The truck can sit there all night and all week for all I care. I watch my clock and at the right time I go right home to my family and have dinner and sleep like a baby. Not my problem.

Okay, so if randomly your internet and phone connection went out and you could not do any business whatsoever and you had to just sit and wait without making any income at all for a whole day because your company did not feel like paying the bill how would you feel about that? And if you made $1,000 a day but randomly this happens and your company says well you know today you only make $50 we'll try again tomorrow maybe you'll get screwed then too. How would you feel about that? If your company looked at you and said what's the problem? You're just sitting here. So you completely lost a whole day. You have $50, what are you crying about? You can work all night you can work Saturday you can work Sunday you can work 24 hours a day your time doesn't mean anything. How would you feel about that?

I'm sure that you take your entire day and try to maximize it so you get every phone call and every carrier working and as much money coming into your pockets as possible. But the trucking company can't do that. You think it's okay for $150,000 truck that pays $20,000 a year in insurance to just sit and be uncompensated? If you go to the local construction equipment rental place and you rent anything, you're not charged by the hour you are charged by the day. But the truck should just sit uncompensated.

So what I hear you saying is who cares if the trucking company doesn't make money? Who cares if they've lost an entire day's Revenue because the shipper didn't feel like having it together?

How often do you lose an entire day's salary mr. Broker?

The idea of tying up $150,000 truck for an entire day and then giving them a small token is ridiculous.

Again, maybe I misunderstood what you wrote. Maybe you'll explain it to me in a way that I will understand it.

But your words seem to fit right into the way that a broker would think. Shipper good broker good Trucking Company, who cares?

And the heck of all of it is, if detention and TONU was always paid 100% of the time in every situation, freight costs would be lower, Freight would move quicker, and everyone would make more money.

After reading Coyote's Detention Addendum I doubt I would ever work with them since they think paying an insulting 35/hour detention (capped at 8 hours total) is acceptable. The section of the Agreement is a slap in the eye. Personally, they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I wonder if they strut into the local seafood restaurant and dictate menu prices there? Who do they think they are? It's MY company and I tell THEM what MY prices are.

    Well put!
