I was looking at this unit or maybe espar because of good feedback
    Webasto: DBW 2010/2016
Not sure what's best to have ? Separate units or one unit for both functions

the 2010 and 2016 are both 45,000 btu units min and will only stay running for about 7 hours at 0 degrees because you use the trucks fans to move the air. The airtop 2000st (7000btu)and thermo top c (17000btu) combination is a much better choice in the Webasto line because it has its own low draw/ thermostatically controlled air fan and a timer to set for 2 hours to warm the engine for starting. the block heater will only bring the engine to 120 degrees internal from -20 in 2 hours but the engine will start. I have used both and found the two part system to be far superior. You only need to start and recharge every 30 hours or so. With the 2010 you have to start after 7.

the Proheat is similar to the Webasto 2010 and has the same disadvantages.

the Espar system and the Webasto two part system are basically the same and have the same advantages.

....gonna order coolant heater later ...what are the advantages vs disadvantages on using block heater vs coolant heater ? ...not sure if I have block heater ( saw it for sale at 80$ )..I don't have generator , my friend suggested to plug it in inverter ( guessing if the truck will start after draining batteries )

I have my Espar set up on a separate battery that has a solenoid that charges the truck as I go down the road, and shuts off when I shut the truck off. It has run 2 days while at home off this one battery. You could set up 2 batteries and hook up some solar panels to keep them charged up to run the block heated while at home...just an idea. do you have the truck near your house? if so, you could hook up the battery and swing by there a few hours before youre ready to go and turn on the block heater.

My parking probably 6 miles away ...no problem getting generator there , but in case I need to start the truck on the road after night ( I usually don't shut up truck for more than 7-8 hours during my 4-5 days I'm on the road ) , just installed new engine 30k miles ago and want to take proper care of it ( no idling , easy winter starts etc ) ...not sure if idling at 1000rpm harming the engine , usually raise rpm if truck idles for 30-60min ...
