I'm not the most educated tb I think you can have the authority without the truck, but you need to have proof of insurance for the truck within 90 days to keep your authority. So without the truck, theres no point in just paying the insurance just to have the authority

You start you business now most of it is just paperwork. then when you buy the trk get insurance. then apply for authority, then upgrade insurance for that. Seems like maybe you should buy truck, lease it with someone for a bit then get you auth.(jmo)

New authority insurance will run you $15-20k annually. Authority won't be granted until you can provide insurance coverage. File an LLC and get your general liability insurance and a workers comp certificate. Get a good accountant and learn how to maximize deductions. Get those costs out of the way. They are fairly cheap and easy to begin with. Save money for down payment on MC insurance. Good luck

I believe you have to get full active authority before you can let it go dormant. Unless insurance requirements are met within 90 days, your application is void. You are correct in and of the fact that you can let it go dormant. I don't think you can have it be dormant from day one

Bottom line is that attempting to "age" an authority is no longer feasible. There's a never ending stream of numbers for sale in the Marketplace section here for those who think they can get away with it.
