Safety gave me a heads up about states are now or will soon be required to see an original or official birth certificate for CDL renewals. Can anybody shed light on this? All states?

Maybe has to do with it. I remember needing birth certificate when transferring CDL. I just don’t remember needing it when I last renewed or changed address. My renewal comes up in about 5 months and it’s not a problem except I’ve got to jump through some hoops to get my hands on it.

I think a passport if you have one will suffice in place of a birth certificate

Yes, and if you give more proof of residence, you can get the enhanced ID from many jurisdictions. Passport will work, too, but I've never had need of one.
BUMBACLADWAR Thanks this. -
Enhanced driver's licenses are only available to U.S. citizens who reside in the states of Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington. It does not meet the requirments of Real ID for access to international travel, government & military facilties, etc.Swiss Mountain Dog Thanks this.

I've got the Real ID, which you can get where available with very little extra trouble.
Copy of birth certificate from the recorder's office in the county you were born. 20 bucks here, but I hear that's variable -
Pennsylvania is also a "REAL ID" State....
We can thank the U.N. for this nonsense.

My wife got one here in Arkansas.

Illinois now requires proof of residency for all changes in address. You're given a 90 day temp license when you renew( CDL and non CDL) while you are investigated for residency. I'm sure this has nothing to do with all the scandalous behavior in Chicagoland.
