I've settled on Wilson logistics to get my CDL and have every intention on staying with them for a year or more. I'll be mostly doing reefer so at least there's more stability in the demand. I head out to Springfield on the 19th to start my starving period for 3 months. I have zero interest in do a lease with anyone. Wish I had more than 5 grand in the bank going into this but I don't unfortunately. Maybe one day in a few years I'll go out and buy my own truck IF I like what I do or if I don't a good carrier to drive for. I hope that I'll be able to stay in the flyover states as much as possible since I like in Oklahoma. Here's to hoping they get me an average of 2300 miles a week or better once "training is done.
My biggest concern is backing I've driving ready mix trucks for so long it's gonna be like when I trained you 18 wheelers to drive a mixer always turning the wrong way. My dad drives for hoobly lobby been there 13 years and makes really good money I've been leaning to try to get hired on there after a year at wilson
Settled on a carrier for getting my CDL

So I'm getting my date pushed back to the third. Appearently my former employers are not responding to their calls for employment verification. I've had to submit a bunch of w-2s and check stubs to them today so the delay cost me 2 weeks to get started. My money won't last through the end of training if they continue to push the date back. So I'm starting to worry

That sucks man. Let them know. They want you just as bad you want them. Maybe they can speed the process up.

Well at least I'll get Thanksgiving with the family with this new date and should be home for Christmas as well so that's a benefit for the date move. But if get gets pushed back further I'll probably have to look elsewhere for employment

$5000 you could of got your cdl through a community college and chose a company without being under contract.
stwik Thanks this. -
I unfortunately don't have the 6 grand the school cost here or the month to wait for a class to open and another month to go through the class.

I'm stuck doing a company sponsored program. I did as much research as I could and this company seems to offer the best in the way of pay, having APUs, NOT having to team with another rookie, and proximity to my residence in OKC.

Work at McDonalds or simillar. It gives you some cash and keeps from having an extended period of unemployment, plus you get a free meal when you work.
