Luvtheroad, I did not come here to start a fight, I will however, answer your questions. First of all I am a wannabe and I have come to this site to learn from professional drivers if I want to continue on the road to becoming a professional driver. I did work for one of the largest trucking companies in the country, home based in New York, as a terminal supervisor. That was in 1988 I was at the bottom of the "management" food chain but I did get a seat at the table where I kept my mouth shut and listened. Most of the discussions revolved around how to reduce the number of drivers in order to increase profit. Now for me this was crazy how do you run a trucking outfit without drivers? If they wanted to get rid of (really just reduce) the drivers then how long would it take before they decided they did not need terminal supervisors. I also noticed that the policy of management was to constantly pit the drivers against each other in order to "control the environment". I decided it would be better for me to leave and find employment in an evironment which was a little less hostile to the employees. I am not trying to insinuate that all companies are of like mind. However, reading many of the post it does seem to indicate, that philosophy or at least mentality is still thriving 21 years later. As for my comment regarding asking a Mexican driver to pinch you, it was not ment to disparage Mexican drives or any other nationality. Instead it was ment to reference companies that seek out foreign employees for the sole purpose of under cutting domestic labor. If I begin to read about American companies brining over Irshman from Ireland to work for less then American workers then I will restate my comment. Until then however, I will stick with the facts and the facts are American companies are using Mexican labor because the Mexican labor is cheaper then American labor fact. I Have read at least 30 different post from professional drivers who have clean driving records, no incidents, no write-ups or complaints. Men and women who have experience who are made to idle while the company uses inexperienced drives so they can pay the inexperienced driver less (and here I am referring to inexperienced American drivers). A company does need to make a profit, I want my check to cash at the end of the week I want health benefits for my family and I would like to make a decent wage. None of these things are possible if a company does not make a profit. But there is a difference between making a profit (which the company is entitled to) and corporate excess. Waste at the expense of the employee, that my friend is called corporate greed and that is what has gotten our country in the economic mess we are in. Also it is fine with me if you want to get rid of all American Professional Drivers so companies can make really big profits, would you care to know why I said that. Because then all those men and women will be collecting welfare in one form or another. People have to eat and kids (as well as their parents) need medical care, and all need some where to live. So if a man (or women) cannot make a decent living on their own then they will let society pay for them. If you think I am wrong just read a newspaper or turn on your radio. None of us want welfare but if your choices are to starve and not provide for your family or put your hand out the choice becomes clear. People need to work and they need to make enough to cover the fundamentals, the basics such as food, clothing, housing and medicine. If you and I were at a truck stop having coffee we would agree on 95% of everything and I really do not think there would be a big difference in the other 5%. As for me these last 21 years have been good to me thank God! The reason why I am a wannabe is simple because I hate what I am doing and I have always had my eye on the black ribbon. I would be interesed in hearing about your "contributions to the trucking industry". Despite what you may be thinking I am not being sarcastic I hope that this little note has cleared up any confussion. I will close with the following suggestion. Do not declare a man to be your enemy before you have a chance to learn what he thinks you may just be decaring war on your strongest ally. Be safe

So you think the companies seek out Mexican labor? Hate to tell you but Hispanics make up 14.5 percent of the population. I don't think they need to look to hard. :biggrin_25525:

It's clear by your rant that you lean far to the left, with all this talk about entitlement and what companies should be allowed to do with their money. For someone who was a terminal supervisor at 26 I would of hoped you would of been more learnered and known that the current crisis is due more to regulators being asleep at the wheel and the insistence by the government through the community redevelopment act that banks have 50% of their balance sheets comprised of high risk loans made to people who where likely to default. Corporation greed was no more then the country's greed and free spending over the last 2 decades. Sooner or later the gravy train goes off the tracks.

I do not lean to the left nor do I have a problem with Mexican or Hispanic or any other groups. I did clearly write that companies used inexperienced American drivers over experienced drivers with good driving records in order to pay the inexperienced driver less. You are right and I agree with you that there was greed and free spending across the line which created the problems we are experiencing as a country. But that does not allow for corporations to exploit their workers. You think I am to the left well sir you are wrong I am not. I do realize if people cannot provide for themselves they will allow the government to provide for them. For the record that is not what I want to see but it is a reality and it is happening right now. Do I want my friends, family and neighbors to go on government assistance, no. Do I see more and more American families going this route yes and I am mad as hell. This is where you and I seem to have a different opinion. I say if companies any company in any industry decides to reduce its work force by out sourcing to cheaper foreign countrys, or employes cheaper labor such as using foreign labor or "inexperienced labor over more costly experienced labor" then these practices will force Americans onto the welfare roles. I believe in unions and I believe in putting America first. I believe every man has a right to "EARN" a decent living. So if that makes me a communist in your book then all I can say is we have two different definitions. But in my day that made you a Patriot. I believe I also said that companies had a right to make a profit the bigger the better as far as I am concerned. But if they want to make huge profits at the drivers or any worker's expence then they will push the American worker onto the welfare roles. Now as you are driving down the that beautiful black ribbon just think about how many professional experienced GOOD, VERY GOOD loyal drives are sitting idle so wannbes like me can be put on the road for 1/2 of what they would have made. I am not trying to start a fight with you or talk to you like your stupid I am sure you are not. All I ask is that you take a few minutes and think about my last statement men and women who have been driving almost as long as you and I have live on this earth made to sit idle so inexperienced cheaper drivers can take the work. If a company needs to operate that way to exist fine. But it they operate that way to increase their profits to buy a corpoarte jet for example then that is bad for the country that I love and I do have a problem with that. Not you stay safe and I really do hope you can make a very good living I do believe you deserve it.

Many people here on this web site could learn a lot of this post of yours. Unfortunatly guys I am aiming at simply are refusing to open their eyes and ears for only to them known reasons. They rather in their signatures keep on exposing pictures of colts and all kinds of guns followed by words of hatred.
I am curious how long will it take for some of those guys to reply to your post with something like 'why don't you find yourself some socialistic country to move to cos America was not founded with having on mind things you're talking about...there are boats and planes, you know?' :)
    Wishing you the best.

Thanks for your feedback. If they read my post they will see that I believe in a free strong America. An America where men can work and earn a living and support their own familys. An American where companies thrive and win through honest compedtition an American that still exist despite the harm she has endured at the hands of the greedy no matter who they are. I am not a communist or a socalist I am an AMERICAN and dam proud of my country.

OK your not left leaning, but you say you want protectionist measures to subsidize higher priced goods that Unions produce. You say it is a right to earn a decent living. And that companies should not mediagate operational costs to provide cheaper products to consumers who have less money to spend. These are all positions trumpeted by the left which is now in power in the executive branch and has been in power in the legislative branch since 2006.

The NAFTA Treaty was signed into law in the U.S. on December 8, 1993 by President Bill Clinton and went into effect on January 1, 1994 .

The cheap foreign labor you don't like is being supported by such left wing groups as the Hispanic and Black caucus. the ACLU , and left wing Mayors of many large cities who have sanctuaries set up in defiance of Federal law etc...

So when Americans went to the polls and voted under the banner of "change we can believe in". I guess many like you who support protectionism and Union representation and redistribution of company profits and the punishment of sucess until it is deemed "fair". Forgot to actually know who they where voting in or who was voting with them through the auspices of groups like ACORN.

There is no right in the bill of rights, the constitution , or the declaration of independence that says you have a right to earn a decent living. Only that you have a right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness through self determination.

A motivated person of sound mind and body will always be able to maintain shelter, food and clothing for themselves and their family. That opportunity exists very easily in this country compared to almost all others.

As far as what many would call a decent living? That is only possible if we do not punish sucess or subsidize the unsuccessful. Motivation breeds sucess, not handouts and non competition.

The NAFTA agreement was finalized under Bush in 1992. He had in on a fast track and had hoped to sign the legislation before departing the white house.

It was left for Clinton to follow through.

Since when does a President have to sign something into law that there predecessor started? Don't see the new prez doing that. And he has not been in office for almost a year like slick willy was when he signed the treaty.

The finalization of a treaty is when it is signed and not before. To say Bush 1 finalized it and nothing could be done about it by the incoming administration is historically inaccurate. Many treaties have been nullified by a change in power, let alone unsigned ones.

You sign it, you put it in your bio,you control congress, you own it.
