I appreciate you saying that. I am new but yes i have thought about driving a truck for 2 years in preperation for when he bought one. I try not to take it lightly and try to keep the mindset that little puddlejumpers can always slow down and deal with it, im 75k pounds and hauling money so i have to think about my load and not their comfort. Im gonna keep trying 1700 before upshifts. On the last run i did i tried that and i could tell i kept boost up much better and if'n i couldve gotten to 1750 i proly wouldnt dropped to 1400. I ran outta room before the hill. The only thing i get mad about mostly is my shifting. I understand floatin gears and did it on the gas trucks. Going up thru the gears i can go smooth without much noise but sometimes i just dont time it right and she grinds so i gotta slowly work the rpms till ifeel her want to go. Going down tends to be more of a ride lol. I domt wamt to hurt the tranny but with all the hills and intersections i just cant bring myself to double clutching. My knees ache just thinking bout kickin that much.

Oh man idk if would take the challenge of vaseline mudd yet but i try and think bout whats gonna happen before it happens so i can think thru what to do. On the hills i do try and shift early. Learmed that the hard way with gas trucks. 466 gasser with a 4 speed. God that truck killed me. Split shift like the devil and pray the vacuum would shift fast enough before you rolled back on the hill

Well i tell ya what, that makes a difference. In 9th i never could get her up to 1750 before a hill because of the route im taking bu even at 1650 i could tell a difference. The boost stays up betweem gears it seems and just kicks in faster. Ill have to haul some grain to town here soon and thats when ill notice more proly. Lately when trying to get to highway speeds ive noticed that in 9th and 10th it just seems to lack the power and i thought trouble mightve been brewing but now i have some thing to try. Thank you guys and ill try and keep you updated

We did experiment with some off road in our Auto. I don't recall enough for floating, however You showed a precision snap trap on having a gear.
We have written before on shifting at the bottom of our RPM so we did not scratch a missed gear however The potent We basically turned over between idle and torque so that whatever we caught in the pond was the gear we used anyway. The Auto was less of a problem let it pick a gear, any gear, any card. then locked it into manual with like a 100 acre paved to play in. With going into the sky a posibity? Certainly. That is not a fear or barrier. It would be a oppertunity to catch up fast on Memphis Center and One giant unicom with exceptiom of POTUSLepton1 Thanks this. -
That articale was a good read man. Really appreciate that link. Very informative and useful for all engines no matter the fuel typex1Heavy Thanks this.

I am rusty on the CAT.
If it is any engine it's the older Detroit 60 Series with the 500+ horsies And a low end that just wont stop.
I am deliberately not involving the Mr Detroit tonight. It's a little bit stubborn like me, with a rattle that passes for please down shift like three gears ago. Rattle Rattle Rattle. And that special cough prior to the grind it exhibits prior to running up in RPMS.
Maybe it is fortunate I was a deaf man. Those wonderful old detriots did not get to express anything good to me, nor did I listen
Cummins is a one RPM engine with one exception. The N11 or M11 I forget the exact. But it is a 11 series. It's very agile and walks very lightly on water under very tippy steel coils Some days I don't even dare with actual thinking hoping she will humor me and ease through that little tangle before it realized that the drives are supposed to get stuck there. People pick on me about some of my volvos over the years and I consider myself disgustingly lucky in three particular exceptions in life with those trucks. If the bosses ever got wind of some of the stories we created together... ha... no one will be hearing any more from me from that day. -
N14...M11.

@x1Heavy i am having trouble finding the serial plates. None on the valve cover

Depending on year of Cat, could be upper driver's side of front cover or front of rocker housing on driver's side.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Not on the block anywhere? Possibly near the Turbo? At the top of the radiator maybe? Those things could be somewhere consistent.Lepton1 Thanks this.
