So I bought a truck. Now what?

    I read horror stories about people losing their butts as O/O and those that are killing it.
    None of the people I work around are supportive of the idea. It seems like it hard to find just the right gig without getting burned a few times.
    I don't know where to start.

    You should have had a plan all ready to implement before you bought the truck. As of right now, your new truck is pretty much an oversized paperweight.

    Lease it onto Landstar and go make some money. Landstar has the trailers and insurance and loads and registration.

    It's a paid for paperweight. I have a job driving now that pays okay.
    I have something of a plan.
    I was hoping for someone to have a better plan and not chime in that I'm a #######. That I already know.

    I have a contract to haul supplies and finished product for a manufacturing company. It is a great situation for both of us. Since you are already working you can take your time and start looking outside the box. If you are near places that manufacture things knock on doors to see if they are happy with who hauls for them.

    You're hauling oil now right? Plan to haul oil with this truck? You've got a leg up on most.. the truck is paid for. If its a junker, don't overspend on anything, just get it safe and dot legal and haul oil. Kinda hard to go wrong with a paid for truck.
    If the truck does have some sort of catastrophic failure, just go back to driving. Its not like you don't have options.

    I'll say this, most of the naysayers in this sort of thing are either too scared to take a chance and can't stand to see someone else do it instead.. or they did try and they failed. That doesn't mean that you will fail.. it means they did. You do need to have a good head on your shoulders and be able to manage a lot of cash flow. Trucks bring in a lot of money, but only a small portion of that money is safe to call spending money. Most of the people who fail get that messed up and spend a lot of the "truck money" on personal items... or.chrome and lights. Then when the truck breaks.. they're done.. and owning a truck is just a terrible, terrible thing that nobody else should try either.

    My advice is to get in no hurry. You need to ask more specific questions here to get any kind of real help. What do I do now? That depends. Did you buy the truck to build a rat rod out of it? Did you buy it to re-sell? Did you buy it to pull a reefer trailer? I'm bettin you bought it to haul oil.. but that's a pure guess due to the lack of info in your original post.

    Could be the best move you ever made... or the worst. The ball is in your court. But.. I repeat.. the truck is paid for. That's a big one.

    You posted this in the oilfield forum so take it your not looking for Landstar info, lol!

    What are you trying to haul? Sand, crude oil, etc... The reason I ask is because you may need to add a blower or a wet kit.

    Do you have experience hauling crude, water, sand, etc? That would be helpful to know.

    What year is the truck? Some of the places I have dealt with want a certain age truck and no older.

    2 years driving in the oil patch in west texas and 7 months hauling crude. I'm not sure if I want to stay in this area. Its busy and dangerous. I don't have a wet kit or a blower yet.
    My truck is an 01 Century sleeper cab with recent in frame and injectors.
